ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

This article is brilliant and fascinating and details just how poorly that club heave treated their own all in the quest for success. It should never be forgotten. It’s an absolute disgrace and no less. It doesn’t get much worse than purposely destroying the neighbourhood your core fans live in for money.

An extract: -

The club have never publicly explained in detail what they did, and declined to answer the Guardian's questions about their historic behaviour and current plans. Neighbours, many of whom have lived in Anfield for decades, remembering a vibrant, flourishing area, believe Liverpool bought and left houses empty to deliberately blight the area, intending it would prompt people to leave and drive house prices down.”

I lived in Anfield when that all started, it was the speed of the decline that was frightening. It wasn't gradual, from Blessington to Breck road it was a true unmanaged and deliberate decline.

It was the shear dehumanization of the people there. Look at the problems Chelsea had with their neighbours because they are not poor and could argue their case. Around Anfield they could be forced from their homes and no one raised a finger. The people turned out were no more than a rodent problem to that club.

Despicable.

Wtf? Can’t they just enjoy the lead up to the big game without referencing us? They are a special type of weird. I just don’t get it. We’re obviously in their heads. They can see we’re going places in the next few seasons. New stadium, Brands, Silva. Mosh. They’re having trouble coming to terms with us coming good again. Weirdos.
Well that's me convinced, sorry for doubting your Blue credentials.

That’s quite unsettling. I was under the impression that it was a gradual decline over 30 - 40 years although I’m not sure what made me think that.

Houses boarded up for a few years in some streets. They stayed like that for years. I knew people who had lived there and they said it was awful. No team is bigger than a community. A lot of people had grown up in that area and raised their own kids there. Many of them were reds fans. I know someone who lived in Tancred Road, about 10 streets back from Lothair Road. He was brought up there and loved the area. He is a red, and supports his club, but he hates what they did to his area.
