ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

I see the 'we're gonna win the lot this year' cycle has officially begun again, tends to coincide with the first couple of pre-season wins against the dregs of the lower leagues under their belt. Apparently Keita & Fabihno have already shown enough to suggest that they're the best in the world n all, obviously!

Sadly I think they'll come close if they recruit the right 'keeper.

I

He’s a young star of their team, a country which already generally overacheives globally considering its size, and as far as I can tell that’s the first time he’s screwed up.

Mistakes happen, de Gea is possibly the best keeper in the world and he let one squirm in in the opening game, but he’s got credit in the bank.

Karius hasn’t. He’s been at best dubious long before Kiev. He got dropped for Mignolet at least once before finally getting his run back in the team and has made significant blunders.

I feel sorry for the lad, but you can’t really argue too much with him not getting a gentle round of applause and a pat on the back.

Plus even if we gave him that, he’s gonna get a tonne of stick from opposition fans every week and he doesn’t come across as the most mentally strong kids around.

Nobody associated with Liverpool wishes this had happened, but it has, and the only way he rebuilds a career in my option is to do it somewhere else, imo.
He's 32

I’m not sure. The noises from the club wouldn’t suggest so, with no replacement strongly linked since Allison last season, but I have to think he will. Maybe it’ll be a loan back to Germany, but I can’t see him on the books.

Of the three we have, Ward has to be the best shoot to start, which maybe he deserves based on what he did at Huddersfield when they got promoted, but I’ve never seen him play more than a few minutes here and there so I don’t know if he’s good enough, though sitting third choice behind both Karius and Mignolet doesn’t suggest they’ve got too much faith in him.

Your issue with Ward is he's 25 and hasn't at any stage got close to dislodging Mignolet or Karius. Could you see any of the top 6 teams moving for him as a number 1?

For me Klopp is taking a massive gamble re the goalkeeper situation. It will not just be toxic if he doesn't sign one, but the fanbase will be very split on it. When we had the same re Howard it killed Roberto

Agree with all of that, but also recognise Klopp can be stubborn over signings so won’t just go for anyone, which may lead to nobody, in which case I’d like to see more of ward in pre-season as for me he’d be the least worst option right now, as at the very least he’s not got a list of previous screw ups on his slate.

Sadly I think they'll come close if they recruit the right 'keeper.

I don’t think they’ll have a sniff whilst Guardiola and Mourinho are in place. They’re better managers with better teams who already finished quite away ahead of Liverpool.

It’s a well worn Liverpool fan line to say ‘if it hadn’t have been for the keeper/defence) we’d be winning the league but they dropped so many points at home last year just through an inability to beat teams who sit deep. Klopp plays only one way and even Allardyce figured out how to negate him over 180 minutes. The top 6 has his number last season and the rest will inevitably catch on as the prem always does. I genuinely think the moments before Karius threw that ball out to Benzema will be as good as it gets for Klopp at Liverpool.

Seen a few moaning about the England game being screened by the council tonight but Blue Joe didnt do it for the CL final, which apparently was a bigger game

Well they better keep the "outrage of the offended" on a low light ready if we win tonight as it'll be same again on Sunday for the final... but in Sevvy Park !!!
