Oh..heres Hooton on Newsnight re England ! Evan Davis treating him like an oracle of what the city feels about England as a team. Constant references to the RS...our history. The usual 'only team in the city' pseudo babble.
Seen that. He looked like he'd just stumbled out of The Albert. Some middle aged wreck warbling away about "scouse not English" and "the Kop said this and said that" and "Libpool isn't a typical English city".

The saddest thing about his appearance was that the producer of Newsnight thought he was the voice of anyone other than a bitter bunch of ageing Kopites.

Oh, and The Farm were a toe-curling bunch of tone deaf spanners.

Hooton is a bellwhiff. "I wus present at Heysel but feel no individual responsibility... Policing... Crumbling stadium... Uefa....FA...victims... martyrs... De best supporters in DE WERRRRRLLLD...."

Do [Poor language removed] off........

And not forgetting that very belated afterthought /Heysel apologia Trip & Reception that was organised by the City Council for Juventus supporters/youth for which he was a mouthpiece - having the temerity to involve Evertonians as though we were complicit. Self serving snide trading on threadbare fame.

Can't believe anyone associated with EFC went along with this. WTF did responsibility/blame/blood-on-the-hands for 29th May 1985 have to do with Everton?

Did the club send along anyone in an official capacity or even more unreal, were supporters asked / went?

Talk about taking the piss. This is why they are hated.

I don’t think they’ll have a sniff whilst Guardiola and Mourinho are in place. They’re better managers with better teams who already finished quite away ahead of Liverpool.

It’s a well worn Liverpool fan line to say ‘if it hadn’t have been for the keeper/defence) we’d be winning the league but they dropped so many points at home last year just through an inability to beat teams who sit deep. Klopp plays only one way and even Allardyce figured out how to negate him over 180 minutes. The top 6 has his number last season and the rest will inevitably catch on as the prem always does. I genuinely think the moments before Karius threw that ball out to Benzema will be as good as it gets for Klopp at Liverpool.

I actually think he is right on that point but fortunately for us that looks a long way off. They seem to have reverted to "you don't need a top keeper to win the league" nonsense which is partly true, but what you can't have is a liability. That is what Karius and Mignolet are at PL level. Many of the top teams have better 2nd choices than them 2. I can see them trotting out Ward at some point as "great young goalkeeper" at age 25 (significantly older than Pickford).

It seems clear to me they don't have the money to pay for Oblak in one go and aren't willing to pay Roma's fee for Allisson (understandably, he is a decent keeper though not sure he's any better than Pickford to be quite honest). Even if they move for Butland now it will cost a fortune as the situation has dragged.

You have to ask yourself, in light of Fakir being renegotiated and the unwillingness to spend on a goalkeeper, is this FSG tightening the purse strings? Is it (As I suspect) the debt level may dictate they can't do much more without the intended sale of Salah? Or is Klopp so pigheaded he can't see their goalkeepers will cost them? None of those eventualities seem good.

While on the one hand they could go close this year, the caveat to that is this year they need to win something. The level they have spent is now substantial, several players bought in for well over 30 million quid. The worlds most expensive defender etc etc. Getting 4th won't last forever. The last time they built up a squad at this expense and needed a big season it unravelled very quickly. Had it not been for the British Establishment protecting them they'd have gone into administration (they were hours away). I suspect if it unravels again it will be more dramatic than this given when Klopp's sides unravel it is normally done dramatically.

Lots of pressure for him, they start off with 3 or 4 very easy fixtures. Then they have a tricky run. Given players are coming back late, they could well balls up those first few games, which if they have any hope of winning the league next season all need to be won. Like this season they could be out of the title race by October. Big pressure, lets see how they handle that.

To round off on the goalkeeper, Klopps backing of Karius has probably just added an extra cut on top of every selling club trying to buy their goalkeeper. They know the fans are close to civil war over him. They will eat Karuis alive next season and the panic will spread through the team at Anfield. Sit deep, frustrate, rely on their overworked players to tire and a mistake from Karius/the defence. Let Anfield work in your favour. That will be the approach.

The fact they are so confident is a major downside, I think some of them actually believe it this season, they believe they are the 2nd best team despite winning nothing and coming 4th. If they don't come out firing and Karius remains in the squad, watch out.

Delusional fans and delusional players. From the BBC:

Croatia defender Dejan Lovren said Modric deserves to win the Ballon d'Or if they win Sunday's final, describing his team-mate as the "best midfield player in the world".

The Liverpool centre-back also believes he should be considered one of the world's best defenders.

Lovren, 29, made 43 appearances for Liverpool last season as they finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the Champions League final.

But he was criticised for some of his performances during the season, and received a death threat after October's 4-1 defeat by Tottenham.

"I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense," he told Bein Sports.

Lucky to stay on the pitch last night,

Lovren loves running his mouth off before he’s actually won anything.

From what I remember from the reporting I think he was forestry worker also claims of him being a bit of a scall but it was a cracking story . If loveren spent more time looking after his Missus rather than tell us what a great defender he was she wouldn’t have been banging some manual worker bad boy behind her millionaire husbands back .
