And their right a lot of the time. But not normally when it’s a big match with a lot riding on it, and that’s why that game stuck with me.
They had money and top players - albeit this was the first iteration of that, with Robinho et al I think.
But it was late in the season and they were fighting us and others for 4th, and it was silent for the whole game.
I put it down to being in a new stadium and settling into where the singing would come from, but it was surprisingly absent of atmosphere.
Genuinely think the hatred between our manc friends is just as strong.Obviously I’m giving a bit here to the city fan, in response to him giving it to me, but genuinely they lack that big rival and every fan base needs one.
Our city rivalry seems stronger than the Mancunian one, because there has been a much wider gulf between those sides for such a long time.
And winning the league didn’t only become a thing in 1992 when they renamed it.
Biggest issue if we lose heavily is the at it’ll mean for other teams going to play them. City have earned the advantage that great teams have of winning a lot of matches before they start.Stop being reasonable Ste, the Cult will have you exiled if they find out.

I don’t know many united fans to be fair, so you could be right, but it’s not the sense I get.Genuinely think the hatred between our manc friends is just as strong.

If we - the second best team in the league - get beaten heavily, that'll only increase, making it harder still to stop them winning the league.
The absolute irony in this post is off the scaleSo act like it.
Being more bothered singing about us, than about you afternwinning the treble isn’t acting like it!
Your club currently has no identity, other than having recently become good. None.
The only identity you have is the plucky underdog past you had, which is now lost.
Stop being so arsed about trying to force a rivalry with Liverpool.
You’re currently our rivals the way Chelsea were for a few seasons when mohrinhonfirst arrived and they were successful, and we seemed to play them 6 times every season.
But that rivalry faded, first because we went [Poor language removed] again, and then because they have dropped off. It’s a temporary rivalry, like with forest in the 70s and 80s.
That’s not a bad thing, but you lot seem to want to force it into being more than that, and it’s just nowhere near.
Even last year when it would’ve had a direct impact on our own chances for success, I still couldn’t really bring myself to want united to beat you.
Yep.But you have not won it since 1990. A pint of beer was £0.73p in them days.
For a club that has not won it's own domestic title for 30 years you certainly have high
opinions of yourselves.
You bet?
I’ve got a season ticket on the kop, although admittedly I only make 3 or 4 games a year at the moment.
I also went to yours to watch us about 5 or 6 years ago. Think it was the first time you were on the verge of breaking into the top four. It was nil-nil and the atmosphere was insipid all game, absolutely awful.
Haha, not sure your meter is calibrated correctly pal!
Yep.
Not having won the league for so long is disappointing without doubt, and pretty much any red I know - myself included - would have swapped the CL for the title last season.
But while we’ve been crap for a lot of those 30 years, we’ve still won a lot of trophies in that time, including two European cups, so we still see ourselves as a big team, and we still think we should be competing for the title, even when we know we’re not actually much good - Roy Hodgson times aside.
What’s wrong with that?
Absolutely no doubt about it they are. Unquestionable.
First eleven is not hugely better, albeit is a little stronger, squad depth is hugely better.
No doubt at all about it.
They’ll likely get 95+ points again this season, and I expect us to fall short of what we did last year.
I can accept it.
Doesn’t change anything else I’ve said about them though.
I actually still like city. They play really good football and beer few of their players are unlikeable either.
And I feel happy for their older fans who have suffered more than most following their team.
I don’t think that’s right roydo. I really don’t.In itself, not much.
But what your lot do is assume that whatever club are having a decent trot are bothered about you. When you are genuinely challenging, then thats fine, but it is YOU that invent the rivalry. Not City or Arsenal, or Chelsea. They all despise you because of what you are OFF the pitch, more than what you do on it.
