Chelsea have 9 from 9 and two home games in a row they’ll look to win. City have a fortuitous run too. If they want to hand themselves he trophy after 3 games then they can but I certainly don’t have to buy into it. Like you I see a far inferior midfield this season and teams wising up to the front line that Klopp dares not rotate. They’ve made improvements in defence yes but apprently pointing out that they haven’t been that impressive isn’t popular currently so we must feign adoration of two home wins and a fortuitous away one against three bottom half teams that try beat last season.
Chelsea have really surprised me this season. I thought they'd struggle. A lot will depend on Hazard, I think he could be the best player in the league if he stays.
The achievement the fella managing had at Napoli, 91 points in Serie A is fantastic. It's a lot easier to match that with Chelsea. So we will see. They have a habit of both winning big games/titles and also compounding opinions. When they look strong they tend to disappoint, when the are up against it they thrive. I remember under Conte, it was all about United, then City, then Spurs, then Liverpool. They quietly went under the radar, won about 13 games in a row and got themselves so far ahead nobody could catch them.
The other thing I'd say, is they look to have a number of players who can play a lot better this season. Rudiger in particular looks a fantastic defender. Morata (another who could be critical like Hazard) is a world class striker who may settle this season. I look at Liverpool and see a side who is playing to it's peak at the start of this season and for much of last.
The other factor in this, is Klopp has always front loaded at seasons. Chelsea and City have come from behind, Spurs and United also tend to warm up later. I am underwhelmed with their start. If they get through the next 5-6 games top of the league then they have a chance, if not forget about it, they'll be battling for 4th again.
There is a record here as well. I openly said after the Bournemouth game 2 years ago they were done. It was a brave prediction for a side top of the league. They lost it that day, because they hadn't built enough of a lead.
Brighton are appalling away from home, arguably the worst in the league, and they scraped past them. We should relax, let them rinse and repeat that it's their year again, and wait for the meltdown. I've given up hoping for any degree of integrity, honesty, humility or intellectual transparency from them.
Paul Cope summed it up perfectly after the cup final, when he made a grade 1 tit of himself, didn't make any acknowledgement of it, just sort of said "well what did you expect me to do"? It's the language and outlook of a sociopath. Even when concrete evidence flies against them they will just ignore it. The sort of attitude that leads to mass murders from states.
So yes I can't hope to reason or educate most of them. As Orwell said of fascism, you can't reason with it (beyond the barrel of a gun) but you can certainly sit back and enjoy it.
