ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

The songs are out of order mate. We had the same songs sung at us at City by a greater number of fans. There was a report out this week that showed 27% of ids in Manchester living in "acute poverty"-the highest in the country I believe. I remember when I was teaching a few years back and it was pretty grim for kids then, so dread to think how people's lives are now. So yes it's a moronic chant and completely self defeating.

That being said so to are Danny Murphy's comments about Evertonians and scousers being on benefits and doing so fraudulently not the same thing? All backed up by dozens of Kopites on twitter (and shamefully some from Liverpool) laughing along at them and resorting to their usual abusive tone when questioned on it, or merely trotting out the "bitter" hashtag (yes in their head standing up for a city's reputation makes you a bitter, but the Tory mindset has rotted to every fibre of that club, starting with the statue of prominent Tories outside the ground).

If singing songs about scouser needing feeding is out of order, so too is "having a joke" and suggesting Evertonian's are all on benefits and fraudulently claiming benefits is also out of order. Yet from what I can see, most reds think the latter is a great joke and those who get offended are fair game for secondary victimisation online. Without failing to see how the attitudes of one shape the attitudes of another.

As a final point, most reds were also falling about laughing to themselves at how wonderful Newcastle fans were for winding Evertonians up. Again no acknowledgement was paid for the fact we had prolonged renditions of exactly the same song from the way end. Again the fact that it annoyed Evertonian's seemed to be a point of hilarity as opposed to solidarity. I am also yet to see any comment from Rafael Benitez to condemn the song which he will have heard. I wonder if we will get any condemnation of him by Liverpool fans? Or is it, when the song is sung to a predominately scouse crowd it's excusable, as they are essentially bitter (or working class, scouser) but when tim and Miles from Surrey have to be on the receiving end, "it's just not cricket old sport"?

Just dont take offence to any type of football song sung by a set of fans.
Why do we sing "Oh Manchester, is full of &^%$"
Is that not derogitory to there city?
What is the point of getting wound up at something we have no control over?
It all just turns tit for tat! I remember songs sung about Lescott by Liverpool fans, about him being the elephant man, we were fuming!
What song was being sang away at City the year he moved to them?
Leave that for the other lot, let them fume! You will have a much longer life

Very well put, we've seen time and again that any morals liverpool fans have come second to tribalism, their view point will be whatever suits their clubs image and nothing else. They put their club before racism in the most shocking manner during the suarez affair, when even John Barnes is defending racism then you know that club has a real problem with objectivity

I'm about to make a couple of RS heads fall off on facebook on YNFA thread. They called me a United fan cos I said they were lucky to win with 2 deflected goals.

Brilliant post.

This is football, this is rivalry. As a self confessed snowflake (and proud), I am adamant that if you take the last bit of vocal passion and from the game then there is nothing left. We sit there in near silence (sound familiar) and morph into one, characterless, homogenised euro-fan that has no identity or defining factors. We don't need to take it to boca junior levels or gala for that matter but the state of our fans as it is is without even taking the last bit of banter away is the beginning of the end for me.

Also, the fans that do not understand rivalry pi55 me off and simply are not proper fans. The famous football rivalries around the world are deep rooted and ancient but are being watered down by plastic sky fans whose biggest rivalry is the guy sat at the end of the bar watching the same match.

It is deathly important we keep our identity, passion and hatred of those who we should not speak of.

Shameful, again.

I live in Manchester. This makes me furious and sad. Going to gigs at the MEN is like going through airport security. Luckily I don't know anyone who was at that gig, but I work at one of the Manchester hospitals and loads of our staff were out there helping the wounded. The bomber's former mosque is actually quite near where I live. A lot of Mancs are still very raw about it. Little kids got killed at that gig, FFS. Hell, why didn't they just bring up the Bataclan shooting too while they were at it?

Again: imagine if someone made a Hillsborough joke.

Why on earth would any Scouser make fun of people being on benefits? Or make jokes about benefits? Isn't that an ANTI-Scouse stereotype? They're not very self-aware. It's like Chelsea fans calling West Ham fans fat Cockney racists.

I usually ignore everything they say/post etc. but my son was there and one of his best mates was murdered. That got me mad for a few minutes but I’m back to ignoring them now, as my mum used to say “ they’re more to be pitied “.

United are unfortunately beyond him at the present time. The fume would be hilarious though.

I reckon that the likes of Chelsea /Tottenham/ big southern clubs could be tempted to have a punt for him and he'd be daft to turn them down if that opportunity came- it would have to be a big whirlwind of circumstances though. Would he be available for a Newcastle or Watford or Aston Villa? None of these options preclude him from going on to the rs in the future - he has to be looking at the mid-tier level premier league clubs in my mind for his next step..

I don't think he'll want to stay up in Scotland for too long. Great place to learn the game, but it's hamstrung by the big two being so dominant, and Celtic still wallowing in the fallout of Rangers going bust. One more season and he'll be off - but to where? If he wasn't carrying the rs great tag, he'd not be considered for them.
A mid table premier team you say.. Hhmmmm
