ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I'm angrier at the situation we're currently in, i had hopes we'd crack the top 6 again this season.
Couldnt agree more. Its bloody tragic for us that noone in the top flight is top wack apart from the RS who are fitness personified yet were shambolic in all quarters and look knackered. Worse still, a lot of us saw this mediocrity coming with the sticking plaster signings instead of constructive player replacement. Pour us another large one, love... stuff the cardiologist in a fortnight.

Arguably the biggest and most prominent interceptions where VAR has overturned decisions, have been to the detriment of the last two league champions, City and Chelsea - who are owned by Sheikh’s and Russian billionaires

If there was a conspiracy in favour of the top clubs - surely those decisions wouldn’t have occurred.

It was a pen in my opinion. Albrighton was clumsy and there was contact, nobody is really arguing that. The contact wasn’t sufficient to make him go down, so he’s certainly guilty of exaggerating that contact.

However, if he doesn’t go down, the ref doesn’t have a decision to make. The FA actively encourage this behaviour, rather than players staying on their feet, because i’m yet to see a ref give a penalty when there has been no claim. It’s not something exclusive to that lot, it’s fairly commonplace now.

It’s just typical that it had to occur in the last seconds yet again.
The RS would of won the league by a point last year had VAR was in, hence it doesn’t support that theory as much as I’d like to agree with you.

Injury crisis at City and the RS at full strength almost all the time. That explains why city are so far behind but not really why the RS keep winning. If you win every game you deserve to be top. It's sickening

I think after last season City were always going to make champions league priority and if they have to sacrifice the league for a year they will. I think even tho early we have to accept that they are going to win it at some point. Await parade and meltdown. Probably best we all book a holiday end of season and get away

But Why would Man City prioritise the European carling cup though?

De Bruyne is a wonderful player, he might even be the best player in the league, but he’s been injury prone for a good few seasons now. This is why City went out and spent a fortune on Mahrez last summer when most argued they didn’t need to - and he spent most of last year warming the bench.

Same goes for Mendy, he’s always crocked so City went out and spent a fortune on Juve’s 1st choice full back, Cancelo, when it looked for all the world that they didn’t need to.

Both have come in and underperformed. That’s poor from Pep. Likewise, they haven’t replaced Kompany when they desperately needed to and they’ve spent a fortune replacing Fernandinho with Rodri (who in fairness has been a mixed bag).

It’s a fair argument to say that if Liverpool lost so many key players, they’d struggle too however Pep really should have seen this coming. The injury to Laporte is the key one, he’s the one who holds it all together.

The Sane injury is easy come easy go as they were close to selling him this summer. Can’t help but feel that City have brought this on themselves, I know a few City fans who feel that they got complacent this summer and needed to strengthen even further to keep the pace with Liverpool.

I suspected Liverpool would suffer when Alisson got injured midway through the 1st game but, annoyingly, they’ve found a keeper West Ham deemed not good enough for their number two slot last summer and he has come in and performed miracles.

Yeah, I hear all that mate. What I’m still struggling with is the “why?”

Because the Premier League is a totally financially driven business / organisation.
It is funded totally from the TV rights that it auctions off and sells. Their highest bidder
and biggest customer by far is SKY TV. SKY TV is funded by subscriptions. Who has the
biggest armchair fan base? Yes - United & Liverpool by far. Therefore SKY TV needs either
United or Liverpool (or preferably both) to be successful to drive and generate subscriptions and
revenues. United are a basket case at the moment so for SKY it is imperative that Liverpool
are successful. A successful Liverpool means higher revenues. Higher revenues means higher
prices can be and are paid for the TV rights. Football clubs like City & Everton just don’t have
millions of armchair fans and overseas’fans’ that SKY need - hence their lack of importance
to them. It is the same reason that SKY & BT have almost exclusively pundits and co-commentators
that are ex- Liverpool and United players. They need to pander to and serve their core customer base.
So therefore, it is good for SKY TV if Liverpool are successful and it is good for the Premier League
if SKY TV is successful. It’s all about money and nothing but the money. VAR is an absolute god send
for them. It allows bias and favouritism to be applied and nobody is to blame except faceless
administrators who are not answerable to anyone and it is all done and achieved at arms length.
Absolutely perfect...
