ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

So, to sum up. Sky, The Premier League, the referees, VAR and the FA are all in on the conspiracy for them to win the League. The establishment, the media, the BBC and all the pundits all have an MO to give them favourable publicity. The Police are all in on it too. Anyone else I’ve missed? Oh, and they’re all on PEDs too. Anything else I’ve missed. This place is embarrassing sometimes.

What do you suggest the FA are using it for?

What sinister calls have you seen?
Changing their mind in the opening weeks about hand ball, changing their views on stages of play for offside, the decisions against city have deplorable, man u had guy studded in the knee clearly , Var seen it as card offence for a dive and that pen at the weekend proves all for me, if that's a pen then diving is legitimate part of play.

But that aspect of what you are describing can never be implemented because only the player would know if he went down too easy or not. The VAR is certainly better than the naked eye. But to make the system fool proof, would mean strapping up sensors and accelerometers on the legs of footballers to determine if the angle of foot and forces & accelerations of the leg warrant a fall, and by extension, a penalty.

In Mane's case there was contact and that means penalty. What I dont get is why did Albrighton stick his foot at Mane even when he (probably) knew that Mane was much faster with the ball than Albrighton was without, especially within the penalty box? Unnecessary if you ask me.

Although I must add that retrospective action might be helpful and help avoid some forms of diving. But that means only game bans for the player. The results would still stand right? What happens if the penalty in stoppage time means relegation and/or title win? What would happen then?!?

Excellent post.

You'd literally need the players wearing sensors all over them and refs to have degrees in biomechanics and physics - even then it would still be subjective and some fans wouldn't be happy.

Albrighton was clumsy and gave him a reason to go down. Mane exaggerated the contact and went down. It's soft, but it's a penalty.

Your last point is the million dollar question, I have no idea where we'd even start. Thankfully it's for the authorities to decide and we can all fume while they get it wrong.

So does that mean crickets "Snicko" should be brought into football ? :)

Heard last night that Van Dijk has left Crosby after just a few months due to constant hassle from the best fans in the world for autographs and photos outside his house on Hall Road.

You wouldn't need sensors, you'd need a pair of eyes in your head and common sense. It was a dive as clear as day, there wasn't enough contact to make him fall over therefore he has deceived a match official. Niasse didn't have sensors strapped all over himself for the panel to decide his fate, whats the difference?

Precedent has already been set with a ban to Niasse, therefore a 3 game ban should be implemented, although I can guarantee it won't be.

Dom says hi, again.

Once, in how many years - how many of those decisions have we had go against us at the pit? Plus Calvert Lewin had 2 hands on his back when he was in front of a defender, not a foot next to his, takes a step then falls over.

Lets not even try and pretend that it's all even and they get as much as they give because frankly, it's not even close.

I remember laughing my bill-hooks off at the pub when Spurs got two very late pens against them in the same game a couple of years ago, both at the Kop and at least one was a clear dive. Again, it's all subjective.

I'm not arguing that it's even, that's not the argument anyone is trying to make here as far as i'm aware. I'm sure in a few weeks, days or perhaps even hours, someone will remember it differently of course.

By the way @Kurt, you okay? lol

VAR is almost always going to be used to protect the referees. Too many changes in decisions is gonna make the ref(s) look inept.

That dodgy pen was down to the ref awarding it. No way would VAR over ride that. Human error / bias was the problem here rather than a VAR conspiracy.

Judging by that ref watch on sky ,yes.
And as was brought up about the Sunday papers all being about klopp getting tore into that young Leicester player rather than the questionable penalty.

That is the entire reasoning for VAR, to stop diving/offsides/cheating. If it isn't going to stop blatant cheating - like in the case of Mane's penalty - then people are going to come up with a very obvious conclusion.
