ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I can’t stand the bloke but he wasn’t overrated.

He’s talked about as one of the greatest midfield players of all time. He wasn’t even the best in that England team, and it’s arguable whether Alonso wasn’t better than him in that Liverpool team. When he was at his peak he would win a match singlehandedly but then disappear in the next game which is one of the reasons why he didn’t win a league.

He was obviously a very very good player but some people pundits put him in their greatest 11s of all time. That for me is overrating him.

lmao
I've said before the officials in the Brighton game had them down for easy 3.0 win unfortunately for them easy VAR decisions indicated they were lucky to escape with a point, they had two offside goals taken off them and two penalties against them all correct , if you wonder if refs are biased for them then watch that game , the ref looked like he was going to vomit giving the last pen.

He was so talented that every single manager he played under try to ship him out instantly.

Hugely overrated mate, shouldn't be uttered in the same sentence as Scholes.

Wasn't even the best midfielder in their team, never mind in the League/world.
he had some good years, and was a very good layer but he wasn't the best. His last few years he was a MoTD player, spraying monster cross field passes, 9/10 went awry, the 1/10 that got home was played on MoTD and they creamed all over him saying he has still got it. Good but there were better, Id have Scholes or Lampard in my team before him.

That's my opinion in a nutshell.

Scholes

Lampard
Gerrard

Pretty sure he agreed to sign United, but Ferguson pulled the plug on the deal as he felt he had better midfielders. Gerrard then won nothing, while United won everything. So easy to see who called that one right.

Scholes Lampard Carrick were all as good if not better (in the case of the first two) than him. Yet you won’t find any case for an inclusion in an all time 11 for any of them even though Scholes has a legendary status anywhere outside of England as the best English midfielder.

Even then the likes of Keane and Vieira in the prem were miles better than him yet would not ever be included for consideration in an all time 11. That’s before you even get to his European counterparts such as Zidane Pirlo Xavi Iniesta Modric who he does not hold a candle to.

A very very good midfielder who had some huge moments in cup competitions but ultimately lacked the consistency of his peers and let’s be honest was found out on the international level when his lack of discipline and technical failings at the very top level were found out.

That does not make for one of the greatest midfielders of all time. I’d put him in with the likes of Bryan Robson and Carrick, a level slightly below Keane and Scholes. If he played for anyone other than Liverpool he wouldn’t even be in consideration. It’s just because he was a shining light in amongst all their rubbish for so many years that he garnered the praise he did.

lmao

"Liverpool have been the worst affected team in the Premier League when it comes to VAR this season."

The RS echo making it sound like the RS have been hard done by.

"The Reds' 1-1 draw at Brighton also proved controversial, with three decisions overturned against the visitors in one game"

How can they be controversial when they were all correctly overturned.

"Brighton got a late penalty decision after Andrew Robertson was adjudged to have felled Danny Welbeck in the box and claimed a dramatic point"

Err, it was a deffo pen.

"So, rightly or wrongly, VAR cost Liverpool four points in the Everton and Brighton matches."

So rightly then, therefore VAR didn't cost the RS four points.

I do not like the references to "they had a goal disallowed".

If it was disallowed then it was not a goal.
