ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Yes they have to patronise to patronise United but we as a club can stand toe to toe with them and they know it , we have been poor in recent years but now we are near them they have gone into overdrive ridiculing us again , i think they fear city more but they are terrified of us on top again
United are rubbish.. it's a disgrace the decisions they've been getting, dragged into the champions league last season via a penalty a game. The FA want nothing more than a United - Liverpool title race and they have made it totally obvious that it's being manufactured.

As obvious as the hand up Liverpool got to winning the league, whilst Man City got the ridiculous decisions against them and constantly playing catch up due to the dodgy scheduling.

Football these days is nothing more than a soap opera - my heart's not in it anymore as it's blatantly rigged.

Or you could just be straight and say that

Salah is 28
Mane is 28
Firmino is 29

And that all three are on long term deals that don't expire until 2023.

Plus they have signed Jot who has just turned 24 and is under contract until 2025.

They clearly have weaknesses especially in midfield but trying to pretend their forwards are a weakness is a bit daft.

Im talking about going into next season.

Salah and Mane will be 29 and Firmino 30, all with deals that take them to 31/32.

Thats not an age for signing new big deals on large contracts (Van Dijk is the same but defenders are different).

They have 3 options.

1) offer all of them bumper new extensions this summer which will see them finish at the club, losing out on any bumper transfer fee's and costs a chunk of money

2) Leave it another year, but will see all 3 players in the final year of their contract, which lowers their value and risks them leaving on a free.

3) Sell one of them (most likely Salah), to fund transfers and get the other 2 to sign extensions.

As well as those 3, they have a few more with 2 years left to run that they will need to make decisions on and offering them all new deals will take up a big portion of the kitty

Van Dijk
Fabinho
Oxlade Chamberlain
Keita
Henderson

It's not sying they are weak. They are a very fine forward line. Salah is world class, Mane and Firmino are extremely good (probably the level below world class) but perfectly suited to the system they are playing in. However within a few months 2 will be 29 one will be 30. Players do tend to slow up, particularly in a team/league that relies on physicality and pace. You have seen this already with Firmino, who's output has started to radically decline, and many of them wanted him dropped earlier in the season.

You also factor in, come the summer they all have 2 years left. Thats tricky, for players you want tom keep it's the "sign or leave" phase, as we saw with Ross. In fairness to them, I do think that will slightly change, with older playerslosing inherent value, but it is still a challenge for them. So it's not saying they are rubbish, more that they are declining in ability and there are contractual pressures for them.

They could easily have all 3 signed on to long term deals by the summer and the question goes away- whether the answer is right to keep them all is another matter, but the question is resolved. However if not I suspect they probably move 1 on to keep the other two. Don't be surprised at all though, if one is moved on, one signs and the other choses to wind a contract down.

As for Jota, you are right that he has been a smart signing. Probably less upside than Werner if he is to get settled but a more solid pick. That being said, for all the hyperbole, for a lad they paid 45m for, I am doubtful he scores 10pl goals this season. We will obviously see, but that seems to be the minimum bar youd want from a forward signed for that money, and he could well fall short.

A big point as well, is many will be after bigger deals, when the budget for wages is already one of the biggest in Europe and essentially unsustainable.

i think Southampton on monday will be a tough game for the Republic of Norway , they have had 3 tought seasons on the go they dont look infallible to me , far from it i looked on rawk today and they are bad mouthing United big time so they must be very worried , me as a United fan i dont think we win the title but if we can stop these bells it would be brilliant

On behalf of most of the UK please win the title so that sickening club can shut the fck up and that dog manager can cry himself back to Germany.

Also unrelated, but do you really hate Harry Maguire because I do

If they could somehow prise Big Cenk from us they would be terrifying.

Maguire has done a little better recently but he has been very average on the whole , defensively we need to be a lot better to challenge for the title

And they were the biggest spenders on agents fee's also. New contracts = higher wages, loyalty payments, agents fee's. For players who are already top earners, this is a chunk.

Also as ypu pointed out, these 3 players have been flogged twice a week every week for going on 3 years, Firmino has already dipped, I cant see the other 2 carrying that intensity on for 2-3 more years.

Also the reason I think there may be something in that Klopp to leave and manage the national team after next season story by cristian falk. He will do a fergie and leave before a full rebuild is necessary.

Now compare them who have TAA, Gomez and Jota as quality young players to Chelsea - Chilwell, James, Pulisic, CHO, Werner, Havertz, Mount, Gilmour

I also think City are in a similqr situation to Liverpool in terms of player ages, but they dont have to worry about money and can rotate a bit more.

Absolutely spot on.
And the journalists and the media readily sweep it under the carpet. A lot are earning a very good living from the PL
gravy train and a lot more have their snouts firmly in the trough.
I just hope that one day it eventually comes to the surface as it did in both cycling and athletics. It took a long time
and it was only due to a very small number of journalists who had the balls to try and expose it. And then they were
ridiculed and sued for years. The more serious question for me is not does corruption exist in football? Because it clearly does. but just how widespread is it?

anyone who thinks it wont/cant happen in the Premier league needs to take a look as you say at cycling and athletics, but also the Italian match fixing scandal. Its going on but it suits all those involved to keep schtum. At some point, someone will blow the whistle (no pun intended)
