ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

There are obviously 2 dynamics to the club, the fans from below and the ownership from above. For the fans, yes the CL is the saving grace. I'll be honest I'm surprised they haven't gone full tilt at the CL mentally yet. I'd like them out in the quarters, I don't want any risk of them 05'ing it, and as you say, I think once they get knocked out I do think the season will implode. It reminds me of Rodgers final full season, once the FA Cup semi final was bottled, it collapsed. I sense the CL will hold it all together for them.

For FSG I doubt they are too bothered about the CL now. It will all be about the top 4. There's probably a world where Klopp could have survived not making the top 4, but I think missing out by a long way, and also potentially missing out on the EL will be too much. I also think how he has mis managed this season, from 1st into January and now 5/6th in late February. I think it will be a lot more clinical from them, with added black marks for him completely blitzing this squad for years to come and the continued digs in the press (and by all accounts the tantrums about wanting Koulibaly). They probably view him as a disobedient GM who's gone rogue.

Klopp's kind of in the middle of those tensions and I suspect is at a point where he doesn't care. It's quite clear from todays reports his next plan was the manage the German national team and that the 2022 date can be brought forward (especially if they don't win 2021). I'd imagine all his eggs are in the CL basket, and if that goes I wouldn't rule out him resigning.

I actually think the collapse couldm be worse than Rodgers too, as Rodgers didn't have have the prestige of Klopp and needed to keep trying to do his job for his reputation. Klopp really isnt in that boat. He doesn't need Liverpool quite like they need him, he can walk into his dream job next as and when he wants. So there's little pressure on him to remain professional when he will be seething. I could imagine it getting quite nasty.
Just watch the sky sports Sunday thing, made me sick, the amount of excuses is pathetic. Claiming Thiago being hard done by.m the press Wasn't he classed as a world class by the media 3 weeks ago.
They had Peace on and he just talks rubbish. No club could deal with the amount of injuries they had, then they pulled out a new stat of days of players injured. There players have been out 49 more days then any other club. Simply because most injuries is no longer true.
Also noted Jota and Milner are back, no doubt he injure them today.

Is that posh boy Pearce? Oh and yes, no club could have dealt with the number of players injured, accept for city rivals Everton who have had more players injured.

Yeah it was.. the best bit about all this is the fact they believe the RS will be back next season. When they simply won’t
O an he said Thiago has his best game vs Everton but that horrendous Richy tackle.
Any other team and he was playing well till he got injured vs

FSG will be shocked at how quickly Klopp allowed their season to unravel. It's ok to use the media to complain about injuries, but he believes it himsef and he used it to further destabilise their season. The Americans wont look too favourably on such unprofessionalism. They'd accept no trophies but a CL spot secured. They know and plan for a team falling away from the top.

Personally, I think they'll avoid Gerrard unless they face a revolt. I dont know who'd they'd suit or take. Maybe a man with greater stature like Allegri who's available? They can see the influence Ancelotti has had here.

Allegri would be high up in their list as he’s the ultimate company man. Just got on with the job at Juventus without complaints, his league form is also solid over a long period without the huge drop off that Klopp has at the end of his doping cycle. He wouldn’t be the choice of the fan base though because he has no emotional attachment to clubs (unlike the cheerleading tramp they have now) and he’s got a terrible record in Europe which they pride above anything else.

I think he may have got away with 1 season out of the CL given the credit he has in the bank. Mind you, going from Pearce's article a few months back, I think every Liverpool manager has it underlined to them the importance of CL. I say maybe 1 season, but the view may have bee, given the investment he has had, and the wage bill being the 5th biggest in Europe, the continuity with the squad, getting his way with Thiago etc and they were so much further ahead than the 4th placed team, that finishing no lower than 4th was a minimum. Lets put it this way, at the start of the season the stress would not have been to win the league, or to compete to win the league, but to ensure you don't fall lower than 4th (and certainly not lower than 6th/7th to miss Europa league).

I'd agree with you on the injuries chat, which is getting ramped up. Americans will see that as excuses, it's mot the American psyche to and coorporate culture to blame everyone else without taking any responsibility. It is also very clear, him constantly going on about injuries has become a self fulfilling prophecy, and they now believe they can't play without Van Dijk. He's done that. He's got obsessed with a particular unfortunate accident, and allowed his squad and himself to lose focus. They will see it as gross negligence.

I do think the comments in January, where he essentially took no ownership of the finances and threw them under the bus will be a bit of a final straw. You ally that to him wanting Koulibaly, when they haven't got the money for big marquee signings and the way he has avoided playing one of the centre backs they have bought and that he had complained about not having will again just look like poor squad management.

As for replacements, I could see them looking for a young innovative coach who specialises in working with raw "unusual" players. I could see a Graham Potter being in their thinking (very Rodgers esque). I'm sure Nagelsman will get a mention too. I think they would very much want a "coach" as opposed to a manager.

On the other names, Allegri I just can't see. He generally worked with the best resourced team in a league, and tended to play older players and sign accordingly. I don't see that one being a great fit, or them really looking at it.

Gerrard as you know I thought they'd avoid, but he had skin in the game. The campaign is on though as of this morning, and journalistic articles are now saying things like "they're very impressed with his work at Rangers". So someone in their milieu off the record is having to get that into the press they like Gerrard. That shows they feel the pressure already. I think he's a big big favourite. I'd be more worried if they went and got a Potter/Nagelsman/Tuchel type myself.

It’s mad really, they gone from Champions by a country mile to 7th and 20 odd points off top yet he’s getting zero criticism because they have a few injuries

Klopps style of football and the intensity he demans only works when players can be rotated and rested. As they didnt have the squad to do that, a few of their main players have played twice a week, 3 years straight. They have been burnt out.

He'd be the type of steady influence FSG need.

Of course, the Kult would hate any such appointment. They want some wise cracking gimp who waves their arms about like a lunatic and who'll inject whatever it takes into their players arms to win a trophy.

Starting with Adrian in goal tonight, as Allison is on compassionate leave, they don’t have Kelleher as back up either, just a 19 year old Polish keeper. Kabak and that tall kid that came on for Horrendeson against us last week are their CB pairing. Still no sign of the Preston lad they signed
