ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Thanks for getting in touch about Breakfast on 05 January.

I note your concerns with the accuracy of information on a story about chants at Liverpool supporters.

I checked the broadcast and located the concerns in question. The story was covering calls by relatives of those killed at Hillsborough to deduct points from teams who use the chant given concerns about it being linked to the disaster. We’re confident this is a chant linked to the Hillsborough disaster, and the club's support for victims of the disaster and expressions of solidarity with Liverpool supporters does not refute that these were Everton supporters making these chants.

Various other chants were heard, such as “The Sun was right; you’re murderers.” It wasn’t focused on Everton fans. It showed Manchester United fans chanting the aforementioned words, and then it showed Liverpool fans chanting Munich at Manchester United fans. It was a broader look at the harm chanting can cause and the response of fans working to prevent them.

There was a lot to cover but it’s not possible to explore all the various shades of opinion or talking points within the space of a single news report. We do try to ensure that over a reasonable period that we reflect the full range of views and perspectives on the stories we feature.

That said, we do value your feedback. As all complaints are sent to senior management, we’ve included your points in our overnight report.

This is among the most widely read sources of feedback in the company and ensures that your concerns have been seen by the right people quickly. This helps inform their decisions about current and future content.

This is the reply I got from the BBC about my complaint regarding offensive chanting by Everton supporters, the highlighted bit shows that they still believe that the chant “ Always the victim” is all about Hillsborough hell will freeze over before they admit otherwise.

before:2011-10-15 always the victims

Paste that into Google.

A simple custom date search before the date of the Evra & Suarez event brings up not a single reference to that chant.

I don’t like that chant at all and I wish it would die a death but once you do searches like that on Google and Twitter there is little doubt it’s about the brazen defence of a racist.

It’s never been about hillsborough. They know that.

But like a cult, if one of them says it means something else, that’s what the masses must repeat until they are heard.

It's never been about Hillsborough from Merseyside. Liverpool fans know Evertonians don't and wouldnt sing about it. But the chant was created and started by man United supporters. If it was created by evertonians you'd be confident it wasn't a Hillsborough reference. Because it was started by them I wouldnt be too sure.
