ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

If only we would sign some elite athletes. :coffee:

I think instead of training our youngsters on how to control a ball or teach them about tactics we just need to get them to sprint a lot and get them juiced up.

I used to think Football was a team sport about skill and technique and the ability to put the ball into the back of the net.

I've just realised years ago when playing Sunday League I should have borrowed ours kids inhaler and I would have turned into prime Maldini.

I thought they’d start cycling back on sooner this season. Let’s be honest if they hadn’t have been so crap to lose to Forest Brentford Wolves and Leeds (at home) during that period then they’d probably still fancy themselves for a run at the title now. I was right, the gap at 8 points wasn’t enough, I’m glad it got to well over 10 points because I wouldn’t put it past that lot winning the majority of their games to the end of the season now just as they did in 2020/21. Loads on here called it that as soon as the World Cup was over their form would drastically improve and that’s exactly what happened.

Well considering Klopp couldn’t give one about domestic trophies and puts out reserve teams in early rounds he only really goes for the CL and PL and since he started cranking them up in 17/18 they’ve contested 3 out of 5 title races and 3 out of 4 CLs (so far). So I’m not that far off tipping them to win everything.
I've never said they weren't a good team, they have been in the past. Just not this season- which is clear to everyone other than some 'Blue' who constantly goes on about how great they are!!! Valencia got to 2 finals in consecutive years, and they were no great side, as a final is not quite the same as winning though, really, especially in a cup when a favourable draw is often key to a good run.

I remember in one of your endlessly long posts bigging them up, you said they'd go on this mega run after the world cup. But since the WC, they've been been knocked out of the League Cup, Fa Cup, lost a few in the league- and been hammered in the process (Brentford, Brighton and Wolves- conceding 3 in each game), and just conceded 5 to be virtually out of the CL- and lucky to draw vs a Palace (which was only the other week).

It’s a lot easier to finish chances when you’re a yard ahead of defenders

It’s a lot easier to play a good through ball when you’ve left your marker behind you

More of your crosses go in when you’re a hard ahead of your full back

Less opposition crosses come in when your fullback is a hard ahead of their attackers

No point pretending one doesn’t help the other

Salah has these periods when he’s cutting inside but not getting away from defenders and then his shots just end up hitting them. He also then has these periods where he’s running away from defenders when he cuts in and has that half yard to find the top corner. That half yard makes all the difference for players at this level.

Someone should have told Stuart Barlow all about this.

Do you think Everton players dope?

So your point is that sometimes a player plays well and sometimes he doesn't? Revelatory stuff.

Logic says some of them probably do, must be a temptation for all footballers. Do I think we have a club orchestrated sophisticated doping campaign? If we do we must be carrying it out very badly (although that wouldn’t be a shock either). We’ve been consistently awful for ages with very few unusual periods of form or performances over the norm, our players are utterly injury prone, and most of our players are blowing after about ten minutes (that’s if they’ve bothered running), so if we are doping then our players must actually be absolutely awful (actually I could buy that as well).

Mate, up until about two weeks ago they didn't wear shin pads in training. We're not exactly at the frontier of sports science. Our players sustain career threatening injuries moving sofas and falling out of lofts.

There is also this yeah. I severely doubt our internal capability to carry out anything when the training pitch wasn’t the right size, a sub tried to come on without a sock once, we didn’t wear shin pads in training, and can’t ever get the sound right on a press conference or manage to edit the video so it starts when the manager actually arrives.
