ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

What do we reckon, u turn on the furlough within the next 48hrs following an impassioned plea from Jurgen?
Afterwhich comes 3 to 4 days of how he lives and breathes the clubs traditions like a latter day Shankly.
Any rival fan brings up the issue, and theyre accused of using a tragedy as a point scoring excercise.
Balance restored to the LFC media lovefezt before weeks end, in some quarters they come out of it with an enhanced reputation, especially if the likes of Spurs and Newcastle carry on with the furlough

I don't even think thats it's mate, I think they've seen the way of saving a few quid (at the taxpayers expense) and rolled with it - to hell with the negative press. They can quite easily pay out of their own budget, but if someone else is offering then why not? Regardless off negative publicity... the saved £4m can go towards a midfielder when the transfer window opens.

If they're paying the extra 20% to ensure that cleaners aren't going to be starving then I'm not *too* against it.

Ok, there may be a few defending the club, but the vast vast majority of their fans I've seen are absolutely slating LFC over this stunt.

Just hope our club doesn't go down the same route as them.

Something very like that I expect mate.

Just seen this from a kopite:

McDonalds UK made a £341m profit in 2018. They’ve furloughed 135,000 UK staff.

LFC made a £42m profit in 2018/19. They’ve furloughed some of their 700 non-playing staff and everyone goes mad.

which would make perfect sense as an argument if Liverpool’s profit per furloughed worker wasn’t about 24 times bigger than McDonalds’

I don’t think it works as an argument in either case, both decisions utterly reprehensible.

The government should, and hopefully will, re-assess the business qualifying criteria and it might be that when the likes of Spurs, LFC, McDonalds etc come to claiming that money back from HMRC, they are unable to.

All clubs and big businesses with a sizeable operating profit need to urgently announce a re-think as the subsequent PR nightmare that follows this will cost those organisations far more than the cash they’d save through furloughing.

At this stage, it’s somewhat less about the morality (or lack of) of the decision and more just how foolish and short-sighted it is in practice.

It wont cost the reds any money though. A couple of weeks will pass and this will all be forgotten about.

Football fans are fickle
