ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Believe me, I have no M.O. Pedantic forensic stats? For picking @catcherintherye for stating...........

“We haven't really spent that much though, relative to the sides above us. We have spent a reasonable amount of money, but were a side in a mess. It takes time.”

Apologies if you think I’m being pedantic but I’m finding fault with that statement. It’s glossed over by the majority of our fanbase and it’s a quite damning. For the money we’ve spent, we Should be better. We’re a decent side but for the money we’ve spent, we should be better than decent. Our ‘par’ if you like, is finishing 7th. We are the 4th highest spenders, gross AND net since Mosh came in. That’s all I’m saying. And I think most of us would agree that our transfer business hasn’t been great. Koeman, Walsh and Fat Sam. It can only improve though. But certain facts can’t be denied to gloss over how bad we’ve been. I’m sure Brands will get it right but some are even doubting him now. Just look at the Brands thread for evidence. At least we seem to have a semblance of order about what we’re doing now compared to then.
You could also say we have moved up to 7th in the amount spent,so we are pretty much par with the amount laid out

You seem to be reading what you want to read into what I have put though.

The reality is, both gross and net we have not massively outspent the top 6 sides above us as you have suggested. We are summer in the middle of them and towards the bottom end on both counts.

I agree money hasn't been spent that well, particularly in the first 2 years. However the expectation that the quantity of money we have spent, is going to be enough to blow away the sides above us is naive. It's causing expectations that are not realistic and a volatility in the fanbase that isn't helpful.

Progress will take a little more time. You can say, even in the last 12 months not enough progress has been made, however spending say 200 million across 2 years is not going ti magically transform us from where Allardyce left us to where the top 6 are.

For a comparison, with inflation adjusted Chelsea and City spent about 1.5 billion in their first 3 seasons (about 4 times what we did). Had we have spent those sort of figures then of course we have a different discussion.

@catcherintherye
"Well I've given you the figures that show we have spent the same amount of money as Liverpool both gross and net"

Really? No we haven't, does it make you feel a little better to say that? You added the figures up wrong and you admitted as such in your reply.
This is turning into a RS v Everton argument and it shouldn't be. Its about the amount of money we've spent in relation to clubs above us.
Of course, I may have it wrong, I’ve used transfermarkt.co.uk. Please tell me which site you used that says we’ve spent the same. If you add all them figures up on the RS row, it’s around the 180m you said, but in 3 of them years they actually made money, so your maths is wrong.
no mate, this is the take the p!ss out of the rs thread

He seems to be really irritated when I've pointed out Liverpool have spent as much as us both gross and net. Seems a tad odd.

I’m not being aggressive at all. Liverpool have spent as much as us gross.............but net? There’s over a 100m difference! It’s a tad odd not to recognise this fact when presented with evidence!!!!!!!! Especially when you haven’t presented the evidence to back yourself up! There’s a difference between aggressive and frustration. The only thing we can agree on is that it’s been spent unwisely.

We don't wear rose tinted glasses on here....so theres no glossing over. We also know we should be better considering the "sailor on shore leave" expenditure that Walsh pe'ed up more than one wall. But there are no delusions of grandeur amongst the majority of us regarding where we are.... and where we should be. We know....without recourse to a quasi powerpoint bore-athon from anyone.

We have spent the same net. The figures provided by transfermarkt are inaccurate. When you factor in the agents fees they will have likely spent more than us net.
