ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Yes, they will all have players at the WC and they will all need managing next season. But LFC have relied on the same players this season using the lowest. That is their fringe/squad players are not good enough, and they will be needed next season. City and Chelsea have big enough squads to rotate. Arsenal will have a war chest but some key players wont be going Ramsey, Arteta, Walcott. Spurs have some very good players that are not used properly, apart from their goalkeeper the back 4 will not be going. Walker looks a doubt. The new manager will have more of a clue than Sherwood.

I think City and Chelsea will be vying for first and second, LFC, United, Spurs, Arsenal and us will be fighting for CL and the top 6 add Southampton into the mix and the 7th placed trophy will be up for grabs.

But Aspas and Luis Alberto wont be going, there important players, just look at their transfer fees :-)

This has probably done the rounds already but anyway the bald dude with the red hat!lol

I'll never, ever get bored of this GIF. There's something new to spot with every viewing

I hope Villa get off the bus at the Etihad tonight wearing sombreros and clutching lilo's.

The last thing the Nation needs now is some form of spirited resistance from either of the Claret and Blues this week

Forgot about fox in the box Aspas and Messi Alberto. Now that you pointed them out I'm going to put all my spare cash, £6.73p, on them winning the league next season.

Disaster?? For whom :D

Brent was found out in this game wasn't he, in some respects. The arrogance the bell end shown when even at 1-3 was there for all to see. He got burned in the end and it was justified.

Would you of made a change at 1-3 to try and see the game out?
Not really. He has surpassed all expectations. But, I haven't seen the match so can't comment.

Hind sight is 20/20. I certainly wouldn't have Liverpool in first place at this stage of the season. Credit where it's due.

Wanna club together? Everton to finish bottom 5 & liverpool to win the league, its called the David James special

Surprised he didn't bring on Agger like he did to sure things up against Norwich. Gerrard aside there aren't that many leaders at Liverpool, players like Kuyt and Carragher would have been useful in their run in.

To be fair i agree with the part that you didnt expect ot be were you are now so over the season he has surpassed expectations. Even for a tranny sh%^ing, Rylan teethed, Primark jacketed, armband wearing, walking rent a quote buzz wording bell

Rodgers not learning lessons is the problem. He blamed the players for trying 'Roy of the Rovers' to get the goal difference down. If he was worried by that why did he replace Sterling, who has been instrumental recently, in creating a lot of goals with Moses.

Surely, if he thought LFC were too gung-ho he should have sent on a defender to shore things up, not an attacker. By sending on an attacker he sent out the message to keep going for it, 'Roy of the Rovers' style.

The man's a fraud and by blaming the players he has lost the dressing room. If things were too 'Roy of the Rovers' (yet another 'against all the odds' cliche by the champion of the soundbite) it is up to his captain on the pitch to calm things down.

Leadership on, and off, the pitch is important. Gerrard showed no leadership and he left his 'Pirlo' role, i.e to protect the back 4 and control the game, 'best in Europe' according to Mr. soundbite, to try and do 'Roy of the Rovers'.

Who really runs this team, Rodgers or Gerrard? If Rodgers could see that his players was too gung-ho then he should have called his captain over and tell him so. Or did he and Gerrard told him to [Poor language removed] off, 'we're going for it'.

Rodgers 'philosophy' has changed. It was all tiki taki, now it is launch it forward as quick as possible, to quick forwards. Similar, to Benitez's Torres team, when Alonso, or Gerrard, would launch the ball forward quickly to Torres.

Rodgers tiki taki wasn't going down too well so he changed. Whether that was by design or being forced to by Mr LFC is open to debate. By changing and playing hoofball, LFC have had some success in challenging for the league.

But at the crucial time, all the faults of the manager and his captain were exposed. I can see why Rodgers/Gerrard thought they could go for it. Palace were finding it difficult when they were 3-0 down and were chasing shadows. But as soon as Pulis, manager of the season, without a shadow of a doubt, made the first sub and they scored. Rodgers should have brought on Agger and reverted to tiki taki keep ball and kill the game. His 'philosophy'.

Bad game management by Rodgers, compounded by his captain going AWOL, led to Palace gaining confidence and it showed. And when the second went in Agger should have been brought on with 3 buses. But Mr. soundbite or was it Gerrard thought otherwise.

This was their chance and they may blow it. They will be lucky to win the 7th paced trophy next season as the effects of the world cup catch up with their 'big' players.

Great post mate. It's funny, because the whole 'It's never our fault' phrase that gets bandied about in relation to the club, really applies to every single aspect of Liverpool, including the manager. Even in recent months:

2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Cup: Should have had 70 penalties and were the better team according to Rodgers, even though it was a pretty even game.
2-0 defeat to Chelsea: Wasn't our fault again, Chelsea parked the bus and played defensively according to Rodgers, even though they scored 2 goals.
3-3 draw at Palace: Wasn't MY fault, we went gung-ho and tried to score too many goals according to Brenda. Surprised he didn't comment on how defensive Palace played, even though they scored 3 goals in the space of ten minutes.

It's just a growing trend on how the club seem to push blame in absolutely ridiculous situations, and it's even shifted its way to the manager. What are we going to hear next?

I had an affair and shagged a tranny, but it wasn't my fault because my wife looks like a busted sofa? Utter bell.

He's never going to accept any responsibility for them blowing winning league from the best position that they've been in for a generation.

As there's a new contract about to hit the table, and the last thing he'll want is anything to taint his new found status as the "new Shanks" and thus potentially reduce his bargaining power.

That's very true. I think he knows to some extent that this year has been a bit of a fluke, and that's no disrespect to Liverpool as they have had a great season. In his eyes, the quicker he gets an improved contract the better, as if it all goes belly up, he's in for a huge payoff.
