ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Liverpool should progress again next season, but so will Everton, Man U and all of the other clubs in the top 7 I think.

They need to do the same next season or this will just have been a season were they punched above their weight, as the previous seasons of 7th and 8th tell me that is all it is at present.

To say that Rodgers has a good eye because he missed out on some good targets is a bit daft, hardly like they were untried novices!

. The word is that we will invest about 60M pounds this summer. If that's true, then next season is really going to be something.

You'll fail FFP if you do that without selling anyone...

I know what you mean though if B-Rod can get a few more players of the calibre of Sahko, Aspas, Assadi, SAhin, Toure, Cissokho, Moses, Borini etc the you'll really fly next year. In fact it'll just be a scrap for 2nd place at best for other teams.

Borini probably has had the most publicity here because he's playing in the Prem. We have a young attacking midfielder called Suso who is playing for Almeria in Spain. We have a 21 year-old defender called Illori at Granada in Spain who has impressed since making his debut in February. Assaidi has been at Stoke, and Andre Wisdom is a young right back at Derby.

I've heard that Wisdom is doing pretty well at Derby isn't he? Fair play to him getting over the bullying he received by Mirallas a few derbies ago ;)

He's about as funny as a spoonful of anthrax in your cornflakes, so it's little wonder he stoops to mocking the disabled to get a laugh.

Disgraceful that.

Think the analogy should just be as he's about as funny as John Bishop, that's insulting enough.

Apparently B-Rod had this to say earlier: "If we do finish second, then we've finished second to the highest wage bill in sport."

No mention of them having thrown away a three goal lead to a team which cost £20 million? Plucky little Liverpool, as graceless in defeat as they are humble in victory.

C'mon City, win with class on Sunday!

So he's ruled out finishing 3rd?

Can't knock Rodger's signings (apart from Aspas) in the final third and with the targets he missed out on and how good they've gone on to be its clear he has an eye for it.

Flanagan aside you probably need a whole new back four if you are to challenge again and I'm not sure Rodgers knows what he's doing there, even if he does think its easy to play a defence game.

Willian and Salah have hardly set the PRemiership alight. Mkhitaryan was a £20m player and no guarantee he'd do it here anyway (see Kagawa), Konoplyanka is unproven and if he bought Costa who would he have replaced?

Sorry but i can't wait to see Brent spunk another £60m up the wall.

On talksport he said that Gerrard 'has never been involved in a title race'. I suppose LFC history didn't start until the chosen one was anointed and his all things LFC 'rich history' is a bit foggy.

The inquest on Rodgers will start on Sunday if City secure the title.

History doesn't judge losers too well. He'll be picked apart in a more methodical way than he's experienced so far. Basically (if City win it), he'll have thrown away a pretty impregnable lead over City in the final few games of a season when Liverpool have had a massive advantage over them and other teams challenging for the title.

No wonder the fraud is getting his excuses in early.

Rodgers has many faults but I think he can pick out a good attacking prospect.

The thing about 2009 is that I was totally serene about it, not once did I ever think they'd win. Looking at the history just now, I'd say the closest they ever got was here

2 points ahead but played two games more than a United team who had Ronaldo in full swing.

That season has attained mythological status among the kopites who now perceive it a titanic neck and neck struggle, when in reality United were always in full control. Even after the 1-4 at Old Trafford they were 4 points behind United and had played a game more. It was over with a fortnight of the season left.

TBF, they'll make a large portion of that by being in the CL.

Will Liverpool be able to spend big this season considering that now they'll have to hand their accounts over to UEFA?

I think Rodgers was using the 'never been in a title race' to deflect criticism for the one person that will keep him in the job. All and sundry, including the RS dominated media, have said that there was no leadership on the pitch because they were disappointed. When they had calmed down, they realised they were questioning Captain Marvel so changed tack. 'We've had a great season .....blah, blah, blah'.

You're right in 2009 Manu were always in the box seat and there was no sense that they wouldn't win the title. The RS dominated media always like to create myths and fantasies around Anfield and the reasons they haven't won the league in 24 years.

This season, though, you can see and hear it in their voices, they are shell shocked. In 1986, I was gutted when we lost to LFC because we had a great team but they also had a good team and it was always nip and tuck all the way. I remember leaving Oxford's ground, after Lineker missed a very good chance, feeling down. Much like after the 1986 cup final.

They will put on a brave face, like they did in 2009, but it will eat away at them and that will linger like a bad smell.
