Agreed. I'm not sure about him, tbh. He's a classy player on his day. I just dont know whether he brings much to a team that's fairly creative in the last third anyway.

They need to gut the back four and start with a completely different line up. And persisting with a faltering Gerrard so deep needs looking at too.

I reckon the rebuilding job at Liverpool is being way underestimated.

Liverpool will not win the league next year and wont even be close. they were only close this season on the basis of Chelsea lacking a decent striker, City injuries to key players and the fact their only decent run in the league was right at the end when their rivals dropped points. Now IF Brendan maintains them in the top 4 then i will consider him a decent manager. It will be much tougher then this year to finish there so if he can even just scrape into 4th next season then fair do's he has done well. Genuine Kopites have this expectation as well, not the YNWA JFT96 plastic fans on the internet and pubs.

this is the closest we will come for a while to the top 4, especially with a top 4 points total come the end of the season. BUT the next time we are challenging up there i believe we will be challenging with a squad, not team, worthy of maintaining the top 4 afterwards. It ids in our own hands because we have proven he can do it.

This season their target was top 4 but now they took advantage of no european footy, had the league bending over backwards, trying to hand them the title by sending out their bent officials, they're delusional to think they have a genuine shot of the title next season. Especially now that the scales have evened out.

That will be their target next year. Lets see if they can handle that pressure of knowing they simple have to get results from the first whistle and factor in euro footy.

It will crush them when they finish around europa. They won't get another shot like this for years and years. Now they expect to challenge and their fans, no matter what they might spout, won't expect anything less, especially after this year. No more ' well we only wanted top 4 ' garbage either.

You're right.

Next season the expectation level will be to challenge for the title, not merely to get a CL spot. Only next season all the planets won't be aligned in the same way that almost gained them their Holy Grail this season.

When the next kopite tells you that "I'm not disappointed, we'd have taken 2nd in August" just reply with - this was the best chance you've had in a generation and it might be another one before you get that close again..................
