Tony Evans the Times football editor and die in the wool kopite has just been on talksport, they've just touched on Heysel and his excuse was that it was so bad because the previous year in Rome against Roma there'd been trouble and their fans went to the final feeling threatened and intimidated.

Now this is a man in a pretty influential position in the media and his narrative is don't blame us the Italians asked for it, pretty [Poor language removed] incredible really.

*.I should also add he insinuated he was part of the violence that happened.

So..... This particular post is born more out of hatred for the RS than sympathy for the affected. But you have posted one that isn't.

Oh, and to take the rest of that sentence, I very much doubt that what happened was planned for to happen. This is where the tragedy is.

Fact of the matter is, a large reason as to why we were banned from Europe was due to Thatcher and the British Government.

The two big human events in the RS history will always be treated differently, as they are at completely different stages of resolution.

The wall part wasn't planned, but it is well reported that the English were out for revenge, it wasn't operation overlord, but it was a planned assault and those that went looking for the fight were generally stood around those looking for the fight. The crush wasn't because a few people surged, it was because a massive group of fans attacked, at the same time, in large numbers, causing the oposing fans to flee and crushing those that fell.

We were banned because they were fking animals out there and that is what they were rightly called. Thatcher didn't help our cause, but it was exactly what was deserved to be honest, something dramatic needed to be done and it was, and the result of the changes are evident in modern football. Doesn't mean we didn't get hammered by it.

This particular post was born out of seeing how the RS were failing to acknowledge their fault in this, and was exactly what I have posted all along, no hidden agenda. Its a gasp in amazement at how little the RS seem to care about what they did.
Its not point scoring, in order to do that, you need a point system and a second party to score against, also someone to argue with. Instead I have you and your incorrect need to dismiss anyone except the 39 and their families as being negatively impacted by this.

Its quite simple... They have claimed the people died because of a falling wall ffs.. Are you really happy with that as an official quote?

People were dead before the wall even fell. They died because the Liverpool fans wanted revenge and got it in the worst possible way.

As for the bit about where the tragedy is... Its you that's misguided, because for everyone the tragedy IS the 39 people that lost there lives.

Your just arguing for the sake of it and trying to make out that discussion of the fringe result of issue, instead of central point, means I don't care about the main point. Your wrong. That's all there is to is.

I think your missing the point here, like.......

Unbelievable.

This is the first time I have read about the blame for the ban being transferred from the Kopites to Thatcher.

Why not go the whole nine yards.

Those rioting Redmen had been infiltrated by MI6 agent provocateurs, not Chelsea fans as previously thought, whose brief was to provoke a riot so's the Iron
Lady could get the English clubs banned from Europe.

All's we need now if The Kaiser Chiefs playing in the background.

Very true.

Now your just being silly.

A large part of the punishment including a blanket ban on English clubs in European competion was due to Thatcher. The reason Thatcher had the opportunity was down to Liverpool fans.

Well I may indeed be "silly".

But at least I am not playing fast and loose with the facts of the ban.....like your good self.

FYI......Thatcher did not impose the ban.

The F.A. themselves did that.

They pulled all English clubs out of European competition indefinitely and with immediate effect on the night the tragedy occurred.

This was formally ratified a week later when they, in their own words, "pre-empted" the inevitable ban which was coming down the pike from UEFA.

Thatcher no doubt hated football but it was outwith her purview to ban English football clubs from playing matches.

But hey.....don't let the facts get in the way of your indignation at people having the cheek to mention Heysel on its anniversary.

I didn't say Thatcher imposed the ban. Thatcher put pressure for a ban to be in place.

Also, I'm not saying people have a cheek mentioning Heysel on its anniversary. I simply suggested it should be mentioned for the purposes of remembering the dead, rather than slamming the perpetrators.
