ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

the one question that no Liverpool fan will answer honestly is what would they think of brendan if they dropped out the top 6 next season?

They came close to winning the league and he is being touted as a top manager. Fair enough, unbias here, we would say the same about any other manager taking a midtable club so close so no different to them lot. Now my point is, if they don't perform as well as last year, potentially Arsenal / United / City / Chelsea will knock them out of the champions league places and therefore knock them out of the main competition. That does not even include us making a another strong claim to it or tottenham's squad under the new man clicking and doing really well.

So if liverpool did drop quite a bit down the league, would he still be the answer for the managers role or would be be seen as a lucky manager who is being shown up? How much will the club entrust to him to see what the answer is the following year?

That is the question here. We dont do well then its probably down to finance and if the clubs above us spend a lot more we can say fair enough. But they have no excuse, despite what anyone says. they have money, they have a world class striker and they have shown they can almost win the title. So anything less than that will surely be a massive shock to the owners system now?

I think it very likely they wont be able to maintain the impetus they had in the League last season because of their CL involvement and also moreover because I think they've still to begin kicking over the repercussions from that totally shambolic end to their season. Gerrard mirrors this now as a spent force and Suarez going would underscore and highlight doubts over their ability to consolidate the progress they made last season. Replacements as such close to his level are few and far between if available at all and they will need incomings who can hit the ground running...never easy but moreso for imported foreign talent with the vigours of the League and relocation etc taking their toll. Dont think Rodgers is anywhere near being capable of achieving them given his wasteful purchases on dross, Sturridge apart (and who wasn't even his choice as hinted at the time in the press).

Here's hoping Italy end his involvement in the World Cup this afternoon.
The sooner the better.

The sooner he is free of the world cup, the sooner he can make the switch to Barcelona. When Uruguay get knocked out today, expect to see kopites mopping their brows.

I'm also hoping Lambert knocks in a couple today and gives them a false sense of security and that he could be the missing piece to the jigsaw.

' wat iz goin on laaaaa, e did it at the werld cup '

I wouldn't expect the rat to leave for a few weeks yet. From the sort of noises were now hearing locally about the existence of clauses and the expectancy of a bid/bids incoming I reckon he will be off and there's possibly already an understanding with Liverpool. They would want to get their squad spending done before his departure so as not to inflate fees with clubs knowing they have a lot of cash in hand.

I know it looked likely he'd leave last season and it didn't come off, but I think Liverpool are in a better place this season with CL football secured. Selling him last season would have been the white flag run up the mast as a club with big time ambitions. I also reckon they're going to look at this season as the last chance to land eye watering money for him. His age from next year becomes a bit of a problem unless he's doing even better this season - which I don't envisage at all. Finally, the difference between last summer and this is that it was Arsenal not one of the Spanish giants. As long as any bid from that source is circa £60M-£70M it's all over.

Barring a catastrophic injury, I honestly don't see Suarez in a Liverpool shirt next season.

He is honestly more of a pull than Liverpool are as a club to get names into their ranks. Forget CL and finishing 2nd. Its Suarez that will get names into that club. I reckon if he isn't a Liverpool player and is sold within the next month, the calibre of player they will sign drops dramatically.

An ageing Gerrard and the signing of a 32 year old lump, hardly gets your mouth watering does it ?

Probably another reason they'll want business done in terms of incomings prior to letting the rat go.

It'd be poor business for liverpool to sell him in the next fortnight or so.

You couldn't make it up.

They have just done a profile on Slipper ahead of the England game and he said that if he was "selfish" he wouldn't even think about retiring from international football until he had broken Beckham' record for outfield caps.

Steve Me ain't selfish lol

Then Lee Dixon, the biggest disappointment ad a panellist in my eyes simply because I thought he would have been good over there, says with a straight face how great a player Gerard has been for England.

It really is barking.

Orwellian nuspeak is what it is.

lol, he really say that?

he must be one thick tit if he thinks breaking an appearances record (a personal achievement) for himself only, whilst holding back long term future solutions from getting game time, is not sellfish.

sturridge has had a woeful WC full of utterly terrible diving, what a gob.. that guy is, liverpool must incoroporate it into their nature, never seen a team so bad, never seen a team with so many english players who do it either.
