Kopites, RAWKites, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to consider Luis, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their transfers;
So let it be with Luis. The noble Blatter
Hath told you Luis was brutish:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Luis answer'd it.
There, under leave of Blatter and the rest--
For Blatter is an honourable man;
So are they all, FIFA, all honourable men--
Come I to speak in Luis's leaving do.
He was my hero, faithful and just to me:
But Blatter says he was brutish;
And Blatter is an honourable man.
He hath scored many goals here at home
Whose aspirations did these goals fulfil?
Did this in Luis seem ambitious?
When that the ‘Pool have cried, Luis hath wept:
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Blatter says he was brutish;
And Blatter is an honourable man.
You all did see that on the December 13th
He was presented with the kingly armband…
Which he did return to Agger: was this ambition?
Yet Barcelona says he is ambitious;
And, sure, they are honourable men.
I speak not to disprove what Blatter spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the Camp Nou there with Luis,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Nice to see the Wall Street financial experts are out in force on RAWK giving in-depth analysis into the intricacies of modern football transfer diligence. Not so much Canary Wharf..... more like Cloud Cuckoo Land........

I always thought the instalments matched the initial contract length.

If they sign Suarez and give him a 5 year contract I'd expect 18m a year on 80m.

Or 40 up front then 10m a year thereafter.

Nah. How the cash is handed over is totally out on its own as something to negotiate. It's nothing to do with FFP really (for those making that link), more about the everyday reality of football as a business which needs to make payments for things like the electric bill and players' wages and tax and whatever. Usually, the selling club want as much as possible as quickly as possible and the buying club want to pay as little as possible for as long as possible. Typically, the payments are made in lump sums over two or three financial years but it's not set in stone. If you're paying the full amount up front then you expect some sort of discount (and especially so if the selling club has a pressing bill they need to pay and so are desperate for the cash). And if you're selling, then you don't really want to be handing out too much of an interest free loan to another club.

Did he care about us? No. Did he get our club in trouble? Multiple times. Has he apologized -- REALLY apologized -- for the crap he has put us through AGAIN? Not one bit. I assume his agent will write some lame "thank you Liverpool fans" statement for him when he packs his bags, but it will be too little too late. He caused trouble last year and angled for Real Madrid. If it wasn't for John Henry's giant brass balls Suarez would be already be there or at Arsenal. And now he ****** up AGAIN, making us all go through another mess, and instead of asking for forgiveness and begging to prove himself to the Liverpool club and fans again, the little **** begs to go to Barca. No feelings for him. None.
