I think they'll do a Newcastle. They're gonna need a bigger squad, the European seeded teams will run right through them, and they still have a below average PL defense. They're gonna get found out, Suarez leaving makes it even worse.

Don't do it to yourself. They're the redsh**e, they always come out smelling of roses

What all of this spending completely fails to address is that they have a massive, gaping liability in the middle of the park. Curious to see if Rodgers has the balls to drop him.

Steven Gerrard may start only half of Liverpool's matches next season as Brendan Rodgers devises a plan to keep the 34-year-old in peak condition until May.

The signing of £10million German holding midfield player Emre Can last week is integral for the Liverpool manager's strategy to pick and choose the matches captain Gerrard appears in after 15 years of regular service.

Gerrard was impressive in playing 51 times for club and country last season but the strain caught up with him at the end and he made costly mistakes, for Liverpool against Chelsea, and for England in the World Cup against Uruguay.

Mind you, Rodgers said this when Stevie me was out of the country. There again the bloke is probably talking crap. Did he listen to the RS dominated media after the Uruguayan game, the second Uruguay goal wasn't Gerrards fault but Jags was to 'blame'.

It wouldn't surprise me if Rodgers went for Vlarr and Lovrens to shore up a leaky defence. With Can in front, inexperienced, he will think they are good enough to not concede 50 league goals.

......I suspect Rodgers will adopt a scattergun approach to spending the Suarez money, no real strategy. The risk is spending more than the going rate because selling clubs and players know they have a hefty pot of money.

The more that nobby spends the less I'm worried about their chances next year. If he'd bought one decent looking young striker and overhauled their defence then said they were confident in their squad and sitting on a war chest to use only for world class potential I'd be nervous. I reckon they'll be absolutely all over the place next season, and the yanks will be asking the tough questions.

But does he actually have the stones to tell captain fantastic to sit down

"Hendo" is equally as crap as "Steven/Stevie/Stevie G". That step up to international football was a quantum leap for a simpleton that just likes to run.

To be honest, I think Liverpool are buying or rumoured to be in for a lot of very decent players who will definitely give their squad more strength. I think they're paying well over the odds for these players, but I suppose that's the nature of the market at the minute.

I think the issue Liverpool have is the style that was such a success for them last season relied heavily (though not exclusively) on the man they've just sold, and no one they're looking at looks to be a like for like replacement. One thing I will give Rodgers is he realised the short-comings of his style of play in the 12/13 season and found a successful way to play last season. He's going to need to change style again this year if he's going to keep Liverpool in the Champions League places (let alone mount any kind of title challenge). I think this season will give us a real indication as to whether he is a top level coach, who can adapt and react well, or whether he's a lucky coach who found a style one year that worked, but as a general rule is limited in what he can achieve with the skills he has.
