Could you imagine having these 4 crooks walking towards you...

I thought that first thing this morning. What really sickened me was the photo holding up the shirts to present to the firefighters reps and grinning like morons. Most clubs pay tribute on tour, be it to a local disaster or worthy cause and its a tangible way of showing respect. This shower do the same and that's fine. However, each and every time, they have to turn it into a gurning mass peacock display of attention seeking. Its disgusting and shows clearly that no one, be it on the Press Liaison/PR side or at any level has the barometer to say... hang on a minute, should we really be acting like this.

NYC LFC.webp

Lets be honest, I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with a club, on tour, trying to connect with the city they are visiting. Taking time out from their very busy schedule to pay their respects to the people who were affected by a huge tragedy. It may even give some people comfort that they are being thought of in this way.

There is however a huge difference in that, to this. Liverpool do great work in the city of Liverpool, with fantastic work for the likes of Alder Hey etc, and like Everton, also have many other smaller carities, Claires House with Ossie for e.g, where they do great work on raising the profile of charities and personal plights to many people who are not aware of their stuggles. What we have here though, in this stage-managed, suited up, crested horror show is solely an attempt by the club to raise THEIR profile in the country they are in, for monetary and egotistical gain. If this was any less that this, they would simply pay their respects, leave their wreath, and walk away. They are not there to raise the profile of a cities plight, its a better known tragedy that the RS are an entity, it is not to show that they stand shoulder to shoulder with them in times of trouble, they want americans to support them and buy their merchandise, they are trying the oldest trick in the book for sales and marketing. 'A brands strength increases with emotional links'.

Thank god they don't have a game in Oklahoma.

There were people on here criticising those who said the "wreath laying" at the site of the Boston bombing was a tasteless PR stunt.

This latest exhibition just underscores that fact.

This is a cynical ploy designed to use the dead to promote their "brand".

Brent used Hillsborough in much the same way in the days before the Slip.

LFC truly is a disgusting entity.

I held back from criticising too much over the Boston thing due to the genuine connection, I actually thought there was an argument for it there, even though I felt it was possibly more about them than the city and the victims, but this looks like purely calculated PR. Attempting to associate your 'brand and image' with an unprecedented disaster and the spontaneous heroism and stoicism that followed is pretty grim.

Has any other corporate or sports body done this, besides in the immediate aftermath? I wonder why Man City didn't feel the need to, they'd just played each other in the same city.

There's something sickening about that particular photo. All other football enmities aside - to stand at a garden of remembrance for a mass slaughter advertising your business with beaming smiles is just about as low as it can get.
