ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I would be most hypocritical for anyone to write them of in here whilst saying we have a chance at top 4 on forum 2, based on what we have seen so far, we have just been tonked by some German team I have never heard of whilst they have just tonked Germany's 2nd best team 4-0. they will be up there this season no doubt about it, fast paced, creative football that so far is all we can only dream of.

3rd? Certainly better then who ever it was we played, and didnt have a shot on goal (more or less)

Martinez has specified who we played, to test areas of our game that he felt we needed work on, only one he didn't pick was Leicester. Liverpool never specified any of their opposition, they were the ones that were chosen as the opposition. These are very different approaches and i think that we'll get more out of our pre-season than they will out of theirs. IMO

More along the lines of the fact they didn't give a hoot really. Not sure on the lineup but they have the German Super Cup against Bayern on Wednesday. I'm sure the focus was on that and they didn't want to risk injury etc.....

So saying they tonked the 2nd best team in Germany isn't 'really' the truth. They are probably the 2nd best team in Germany but, well........... not a true reflection considering.

So are we saying for all our pre season games where we havent created a chance and hardly strung a pass together its because we were playing teams who gave a 'hoot' yet when they do quite well in pre season its because the opposition didnt give a hoot?

Thats settled that then, if gary lineker says it, it must be true.
Its really always been like that though hasn't it. Results DO mean nothing...

Pre-season is all about fitness and getting your players clicking and shaking off the cobwebs, if you will, getting into a rhythm. The fact does remain though that results mean F all.

3 years ago, we won 6 out of 7 pre-season games, and then won only 1 out of 8 Prem games.
My post was about writing Liverpool off whilst expecting our squad to mount a top 4 challenge the 2 things dont go hand in hand and if they did it they would definately be called deluded. No doubt about it. I would rather us win some pre season games and get a bit of momentum going, lets see how we do saturday before we judge but if we are on 2 points or less by the first international break then the pre season has to take a chunk of the blame along with lack of squad strengthening

No mate, i'm saying Dortmund have a German Super Cup game against their rivals in 3 days time in a competitive game and were not going 100%....... fielding a weakened team.

Did saturday inspire confidence in you that we can just turn it on this coming saturday? I ust dont see it although Im desperate to get off to a good start

Thats all im saying you can only beat whats in front of you, build a little momentum, breed some confidence, create some chances, dictate a bit of the play, jsut somethiong, we have done nothing this pre season. so lets just see what happens saturday, becasue unless we are 100% by the 2nd weekend arsenal will batter us

Do you honestly think that our lads won't be up for Saturday at Leicester ? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say i highly doubt winning at Paderborn at the weekend will boost the players confidence so significantly, that we'll be right up for the foxes.
