Philippe Coutinho is 'just magical', says Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool show there's life after Luis Suarez with thumping win

He is so gifted and the fans appreciated it because of the level of the opponent,’ said Rodgers. ‘His ability is just magical. His ability to get out of tight situations, his view of the game. That’s his best position too — playing between the lines, he tempts defenders out.
‘You saw that with the ball he played around the corner for the first goal. It’s about sustainability with him now. He’s lit up this country with his quality. We are now going on to a big stage in Champions League and he will have chance to show that there, too.

When exactly did Coutinho 'light up the country?' Was that when he got his two tap ins against us and City, or was it when Rodgers kept dropping him for being out of form?

Looking at that team of theirs (if they dont add by September) - still a large question mark over the defence, despite all the Lovren nonsense; forward line that looks lively still but will be fatally weakened by Suarez's departure (I dont see Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho turning up against stubborn opponents in the middle of the coming campaign like Suarez was willing to do); and above all that midfield still looks like boiled sh1te...QB Gerrard, the gormless Henderson and now Can, who's looked like a carthorse up to now, replacing Lucas/Allen.

If the window slams shut without them adding significantly in midfield I'd see them really struggling to get top 4.

He got 3 more assists than Gareth Barry in the EPL last season, 'magical' indeed.

He's turned up against Dortmunds stiffs and Brent is making out he's Zidane ffs.

I can't wait to see him grasping for excuses come the Autumn.

If that galoot is on the pitch a lot this season you know it's all gone arse up for them.

Exactly. Whichever way you spin it they've:

1. lost a genuine world class player (but obviously a vile human) and
2. Have to try and integrate a number of new players

Plus this year Mr Potato Head's tactics won't be anything new.

you been watching their pre-season games davek?

bit miffed by what rodgers has said about lovren btw. lovren is a decent defender, but is made to look better because he scores goals - hence his high price. excuse me if i'm wrong, but that makes him the opposite of carragher, he's also a tall demanding CB, not something i'd associate with "last-ditch carragher".

he actually labelled him as "number one centre back" love another new position he's come up with, not sure carragher ever was the number one centre back anyway. he normally had a better man next to him who he worked in tandem with e.g. hyypia. rodgers just getting another bit or RS arse licking out of the way to gain more popularity imo, pretty sure he didn't rate carragher that much when he was boss of him.
