ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

For £1.5M I'd have taken a chance on him if he completed a medical. He'd be a better option than Hibbert that's for sure. We need a RB to fill in for Coleman.

So when do you think we will start hearing the best fans in der werrrld voice their dissent this season?

Hes just another townsend, lennon, young, wright-phillips, pace and not much else, will start getting found out like they all did this season, all those 4 got the same massive hype after one good half season too

I'd say he's different to Townsend. Sterling is a good dribbler and can actually place shots. I don't think he takes long shots. He runs like a pansy though and he's a terrible person outside of football. He's definitely not as good, nor is he going to be as good as Barkley is (despite what the rs believe) but he's their best prospect and he isn't bad.

Townsend, on the other hand. What was it, 45:1 shots to go ratio? Get the ball, run, shoot from 30 yards. He's turbo gash.

Aye fair point, more drawing comparisons in the hype between the two, ability wise i think SWP is a fair comparison as i remember initially he got the same press as Sterling is now, also could beat a man and the size thing makes it easy to compare, players will get used to how to play vs sterling though, their were times near the end of the season ti looked like it had already started to happen tbf, and for one was unimpressed with him in the WC despite the media seemingly thinking he was one who played well etc

Exactly this. He's eyecatching, but that's about it. If you actually look at what he does, it's the action of a completely braindead football. His runs aren't thought through and the amount of times he hits blind alleys and is dispossessed is incredible. In the second game at the World Cup he was the worst player on the pitch; everything broke down because of him.

He's SWP version 2.

Suarez made a hell of a lot of their players looked good last season mate, just by his non stop movement and as example the amount of times one of those blind runs by sterling into a alley was bailed out by Suarez making himself available by busting a lung, definitely not gonna see anyone their atm being able to do that, although i rate Markovic he has the exact same habit as well - all about what looks eye-catching rather than being effective), will see a lot of frustrated kopites fuming this season and with Gerrard doing that anchor role their gonna be massively vulnerable to any team on the counter with a bit of pace

Can actually see them getting done over by the exact same tactics they used on teams last year to gut some teams

I dont think the stats back up that Sterling is even a top five dribbler in the PL. He has decent balance but he isn't a pure 'slaloming' type of dribbler like a Hazard for example. He's predictable in that he prefers to stay wide left and burn a defender off with pace. If he comes inside his right foot isn't his strong suit. I think that's what defenders have to do more often: show him inside.

And his goal was a cross that went straight in against Villa

Sterling's pre-season form similar to Barcelona frontman Lionel Messi, says Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers says Raheem Sterling’s breathtaking pre-season form for Liverpool FC has reminded him of Barcelona great Lionel Messi.

The exciting 19-year-old winger will go into Sunday’s Premier League opener with Southampton at Anfield on a high after shining throughout the club’s schedule of friendlies.

He's all pace, he has defenders backing off him because if they go tight he will get the ball round him and he'll be away.

Doubling up on him and he'll be like a fish out of water; he doesn't have the technical ability to weave in between people, nor does he have the feet. His control, for the majority of the time, is that of championship player, seriously struggles to trap a ball or keep it uner control, his execution is hit and miss
