You would think so too. Looking at their reaction though the players they brought in seem to have taken the sting out of this £10M-£20M more for Suarez they were boasting about a few weeks back now not being there. It's the sheer numbers they brought in that's pacified them.

When will that lot ever learn they have an atrocious record in the transfer market buying loads of mediocre players in one fell swoop?

Their like teenage girls with self harm issues when the transfer window opens.

I reckon the owners will put the brakes on the spending after this window as they try and fund the ground redevelopment before they sell up.

before the WC many of them were going on about a potential Suarez sale dwarfing Bale's price. Real fantasy numbers, £120, £130 million kind of thing. Loons.

Bet this stings :D

It could well be that the fee was going to be £75m before the world cup, with the whole biting incident & ban dropping the fee by £10m.

If so, hahahahahahahahaahahahaha

The thing is it doesn't matter does it really, would that extra £10m have meant they'd have brought in anyone better? It's not like it would have made any difference to the targets.

The other thing, and I am by no means well versed in players outside of L4/England, it doesnt look to me that any of the latest incomers will increase their value massively, giving the owners a future payday that Suarez has contributed to this summer.

Sterling/Sturridge, granted, could be sold for a few bob probably, but they have lobbed the lot on black or red as far as I can see.

Of course it matters mate, it could have gone towards the £40m they are going to pay to re-sign Peter Crouch

RAWK reaction to £65M for the subhuman - a mixture of anger and denial:

I can’t believe they managed to negotiate 10m off the deal, I'd be disgusted to find out that’s true. It could be something to do with how the deal is structured. Let’s see what the reliable UK sources have to say on it.

Without wanting to be controversial it is interesting to note that UK sources are deemed to be ‘reliable’ when it suits the agenda.

Markovic is the only one I'd say has the chance of turning into a huge fee down the line mate, lot depends on how he develops the next 2-3 years though - huge talent but could easily end up a fringe player who gets sold for 7-8m in 3 seasons. 20m paid out for him shows that they do have to overpay vastly to attract players with some rep though

He looks like a You Tube buy to me. His record in a crap Portugese league wasn't anything special. The lad might have talent but he's a huge punt @ £20m

I agree mate, but out the lot they pulled in this year, i'd say he is the only one of them with the 'potential' to become one of those mega money transfer fees in 3-4 years time - bloody big IF on that potential though, as up to now he's someone who does amazing things once in a whilst, or plays a blinder once in a whilst, no consistency their yet - and hard to envisage how he's gonna get enough minutes in the rs side this year to find the consistency he needs to as they decided to load themselves down in attacking wide players.

20m was way to much though and reflects his highlight games rather than his overall level of play - payed for the potential rather than what he brings right now
