ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Didn't they pay a barrel of money for Johnson back in 2008 or whenever it was?! And yet Benitez was "never given any money for transfers" apparently.

'bout 18 million I think wasn't it?

Yep I think you're right mate. That was a LOT of money for a RB back then! And then there's Robbie Keane...

But no, they never spend any money apparently. Useless buggers have been throwing around cash like it's going out of fashion for as long as I can remember. Which I don't have a problem with because we do the same - but don't go and pretend you are hard done by, Pool fans!

They might struggle against Chelsea, based on the match last night, but they certainly have enough about themselves to beat anyone else in this league. They could easily still be a top 4 team this season. I'll await till we're further into the season before I entertain the idea of writing them off

They are Liverpool, they always seem to find a way to be in the mix, even if they don't actually win anything

But that's not good enough for them given their quest for the illusive holy grail. Unless their cocktail of new players start to gel between now and October, performances like that last night will become the norm and they will, in effect, be writing themselves off

No mate, they are crap and will finish 6th.......

I love how Rodgers still insists on playing Allen, who is just a passenger along for the ride. Nearly invisible every game he features in. But Rodgers would never get rid of him because of such a big deal he made about the Welsh Xavi and how much he hyped him up. Rodgers' ego is too big to admit he was wrong about a player.

Wait until they have the shock of Tue/Sat or Wed/Sun weekly schedules. Gnashers hasn't faced anything like it before and he's going to struggle to get them focussed and fit enough. Last year I'd say they earned about an extra 9 points by solely concentrating on the PL each week.

meh...top 4 is still doable for them considering out of the other 4 contenders for the 3d/4th places (us, spurs, arsenal and utd) it's very likely 3 if not all 4 will go on a run of sustained poor form.

Teams will learn that they only have to weather 30 minutes of all out attack to get a result though, between last season and last night's game, so if Brendan doesn't figure out how to organise a defence soon, they're in trouble. A lot of lower/mid table teams will be fine sitting back with 10-11 in the box and dealing easily with their balls over the top. Chelsea set the blueprint last spring, City just implemented it to perfection.

Im goign to enjoy this how long will it take for the line:

"It will take time for the new players to bed in"

To be trotted out.

Even today's Times had him dishing out that 'blame anyone but me' thing he shamelessly does.....

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, bemoaned the defending by Alberto Moreno and Dejan Lovren, two of his summer signings, for City’s goals. “The goals we’re disappointed with,” he said. “The first and third we can do better with. You can spend as much money as you want, but it doesn’t guarantee you anything. I’m only confident that they are going to get better.”
