Exactly right, as a mad dog in Liverpool's Gerrard centric kick and rush counter attack system he's a useful player. In a midfield that wants to get on the ball and make the play he's severely limited. In a weird way he's a better player off the ball than he is with it.

McCarthy can do the mad dog role but he's also got the tactical awareness to defensively cover team mares that Henderson doesn't have. McCarthy can also monopolise possession in a way Henderson cant so for me he's a better player.
I would like to see mccarthy kick on a bit in possession, with stones in the side him an barry both have an easier task on the ball, but yeah wouldnt swap him for henderson, no chance

Nothing weird about it, even kopites admit that Gerrard needs Henderson to do his running for them. In fact since Henderson is just Gerrard's legs they should only count as one man summed up and should be able to have another player on the pitch.

Here is a scientific diagram:

I agree. McCarthy is a smoother player than Henderson who has too much of the headless chicken about him at times. Our fella also looks more comfortable on the ball...Henderson often looks as though hes careering round with bin lids on his feet. Rodgers rates him as the new midfield maestro-elect though :D

Henderson is a runner and thats all, he looks okay in a system were he doesnt have to do anything that a top class midfielder does, and put him in a system were he has to do actual cm duties and you get englands world cup campaign
Is McCarthy doing any of those things though really? Hes a pretty useful player as is McCarthy. We aren't expecting either of them to suddenly morph into Pirlo any time soon.

Hes not doing as much as id like him to do, but he is more intelligent defensively than henderson, has a far better relationship with his attacking full backs, and a greater understanding of the role, so he doesnt have to play i a midfield three instead of a two without getting totally over run

The best part about this is the toll it will take on their slipper, er skipper. The more and more mediocre performances they turn in, the further they slip away from being title challengers, the more they realise that last season was their chance, they slipped up, and it was his fault.

And he will hear that song at every single ground.

It will reduce him to a shivering, drooling mess by the end of the season.
