ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

i've said it before, they lose their drive at the age of about 26. you watch so many of them these days, they just labour around the pitch. someone like ozil for example, terrific player, but he has no drive to bust a gut or anything. he doesn't feel the need to work his ass off, he's still already earned enough to last 10 lifetimes.

there does seem to be an awful lot of cases where players seem to buck up their idea for a few months and then they get a new contract. wonder if it's anything to do with management saying "we're not sure you deserve the amount your asking" them bam bit of form to earn the extra cash. i honestly don't understand what footballers these days can do with 130k a week that they can't do with 120k a week. greed gone mad.
Tbh it is hard for anyone to constantly work at their maximum potential regardless of the job you do. Most of us just don't have millions watching to point out those spells where we struggle to do something that two months ago we were handling with ease.

There are sportsmen and women who earn a fraction of the wages footballers do, and remain the very model of professionalism and commitment; they do it for the pride, honour and to be the best (which is supposed to be the essence of sport.) Some of the Olympic cycling gold medalists probably earn per year from their sport what Rooney gets per week and their approach to the sport puts most footballers to shame. Most top-level sportsmen would be embarrassed to put in the level of performance and effort that some of the footballers put in. What do you think the All-Blacks would do if one of their number moaned in the press about their home club disrespecting them over a birthday cake?

Don't you think even the most commited and professional person has variations in their performances? They might be putting all the effort in but other factors such as self-doubt, illness, energy, happiness surely affect everyone?

No question at all, but to go back to the original post you were replying to, it's funny how these things improve for footballers when it's time for a new contract. It's much more noticeable in football.

Interesting read that, from the point of view of what's not said.

Reading between the lines there: Werner is hardly reassuring about Sterling signing for them; he seems to be downplaying Rodgers and emphasising the 'transfer committee' success in turning their season around; and that looks defo to me like an admission that phase two of Anfield's redevelopment is a pipedream (basically, they're adding on 8,000 seats and a new facade to the main stand and that'll be it).

I would not be too chuffed reading that if I was a Kopite.

Will it reduce "Der 15 year waiting list doe"?

The Kopites have been mugged off. They had all this hullabaloo about the redevelopment but all they're getting is 8,000 more on top of what they had already, and most of these new seats in the Centenary Stand will be corporate and/or premium priced tickets. They are getting a nice 'historical' facade though that represents the fact they were shat out of Everton in 1892.

Result.

Also.."We are very pleased too with the progress the club has made in the last few weeks".....which means they were not too happy before the upturn in results...."I don’t know if the word is critical – it certainly is important to make top four"........and " I’ll be disappointed if we don’t win the FA Cup for Steven Gerrard in his last year at the club".........so your card is marked Brenda, 4th plus FA cup is the requirement........

Shot across the bow for Rodgers, and makes a tool of him on transfers by suggesting he's got as much to say on who comes in as FSG and other club officers. Ouch. Have that Brendan.

He's used the opportunity for the most part though to prepare the Kopite mugs that Sterling is off to a big club in the summer to pay for the new stand, and that the phantom phase two of Anfield's redevelopment isn't happening...but they'll get a new front door on the Centenary Stand and Libpoolfootballclub's histtory will be featuring in the design...which must mean it'll have a mural about Heysel too then wont it??

I think Sterling will sign, not the contract that is on the table but a new very large one from the new funds pushed in by Sky. He will still be crap.........But crap with more money.....

Alternately, FSG could cash in on a player who has been hyped up beyond belief, use the cash to pay off some of the stadium upgrade and rely on someone like Ibe coming through.

NOOOOOOOOO....please keep him there, let him be seen for the one trick pony he is, let his value drop like a stone, then sell him.........

I really don't get the hype. He's quick, that's it. How many prem goals has he got this season? Not loads. The kopite media are deperate for him to be world class, but he just isn't....
