ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

When it goes it really goes with that lot. They can be idolising someone and then a couple of bad results later they're calling them fit to burn and the world falls in on the manager.

Gnashers is going to find out exactly how much all his talk about 'family' and 'fantastic institution' was wide of the mark. They'll take him out and bullet him in a heartbeat.
Couldn't the same be said of any fanbase though?

Including us, one moment it was Bobby brown shoes and the the next it is plotters coming out the woodwork.

His shoes will always be brown, win lose or draw ! He is a stylish man who could charm the pants of a lesbian Nun ? Whether you think he is a good manager or not is up for debate right now.

Well yes I agree with all of that. One thing I have learnt from Rodgers is that he is an absolute snide underneath it all. A complete charlatan as well and knows who to charm at the right moment.

My suspicion is he will be busy chumming up to the owners. Explaining that it costs a lot of money to build a top team, or someone like him. He'll even accept working under their conditions. Most importantly, if they let the fans run him out of town, like the last set of yanks very quickly they'll be pressuring them out of the club with no return on investment.

I sense he will set himself up as the FSG man and a buffer between the fans and the board. I doubt he'd have the bottle to do a Benitez and whinge about lack of spending, (I know he's spent a load of money, but so did Benitez and that doesn't register with Kopites).

His chance of success in all of this will really depend on how much interest FSG have and how much time and money they are willing to invest. If they are to prioritise Liverpool, they will put money in and go and get Klopp or someone. I suspect though they are losing interest. Rodgers loyalty could be just the ticket.

We shall see anyway. I am not too bothered either way. Forget attracting top players they can barely keep their own. Gerrard leaving, Stirling leaving, Johnson leaving. Hendo and Skirtl 1 year left on contracts still not signed. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

They are pulling money out of the club. Martinez (pre FA Cup Win) turned them down. I don't think they'd attract a top name. I could see them looking for someone like Gary Monk if they sacked him. I can really see them going the same way Villa did under Learner if they don't qualify for the CL this summer!

Yes, I think that'll be key the point you make about the attitude of FSG to on-field success (or lack of). The Kopites might have some conceit that they exist to win trophies, but for FSG this is a business they're growing...growing in order to sell on for a massive profit. Getting CL football would have been on their wish list this season as it keeps the profile of their product high and boosts market interest. But I reckon they'll wear it for one season as they roll out that stadium development which will make the sale of LFC a lot more palatable to buyers. I dont see them backing Rodgers with cash this summer. If he's to go they'll need a warchest to attract an incoming manager of quality.

They (FSG) are in a decent position having paid buttons for Liverpool. They can put up with Rodgers and see if he turns it around this coming autumn/winter. Ultimately they'll walk away scooping about three quarters of a billion after paying £300M.

Well yes, it's what happens when you get anomie in a cult. They really struggle with differing viewpoints. The situation they are in is very complex and requires nuance. They are not ready to turn on Rodgers yet, it's not a Hodgson that's for sure. But some fans will start to see through Rodgers and want him out. You will see (at least) 2 different opinions coming to dominate. That is at least 1 more view than the deadhead goons at the Echo or RAWK can handle. It will be amusing to see them try to fight out for amongst themselves who has the true lineage of Shankly.
The thing with a cult leader is that they only stay a leader if there's total, blind obedience to them. The moment they're questioned is the beginning of the end for them. Many still want to defend Rodgers, but the breach is made now and there's going to be a small army deserting Rodgers' Waco ranch soon and calling for his immediate destruction.

No mate. It was a handful of plotters who hated Martinez becoming manager who got the ball rolling before Christmas, at which point the vast majority laughed their bollocks off at them. Only when we were in free fall did that attitude take on any potency against Martinez. Understandably, but terribly misguided. You're talking a lot longer time for a manager to be condemned at Everton than Liverpool...although I would say it shocked me just how many blues displayed the Kopites horrible characteristic of entitlement this season.

That is no doubt what their business plan was, but the idea that the club as a business can make serious money which will enable them to become competitive on a regular basis without sigificant investment in the squad from the owners has surely been tested to destruction now. Putting an extra 10-20,000 on the tin mine isnt going to be enough to compete against the actual riches of United and Arsenal, and the senseless piles of cash at City and Chelsea, and unless they are regularly competitive they are going to go the same way as almost all of the rest of the league.

I'm still shocked FSG haven't played the Rafael card yet

He'd be a universally popular appointment amongst their fanbase

Bring him in and he suceeds, and you have a sucessful club

Bring him in and he flops, you can get rid of him and also stop your supporters clamouring for him

I don't know that many reds mate but I don't know one who would take him back. RAWK's portrayal of Rafael as some kind of demi-god doesn't really add up with the match going lads I know.

Am I reading this right: you believe FSG thus far have'nt backed Dalglish and then Gnashers?!!

They must have spent in excess of £320M in the past 4 seasons and a net spend of around £90M.

I doubt in that time any other team than City have backed their manager more.

I read it that it makes it more difficult to get top dollar for the club when they sell up. FSG that is.

Yeah, I did. But the suggestion seems to be that the value of the club can only be realised if they're competitive on the pitch and to do that the team needs a lot more spent on it rather than stadium redevelopment.

I'd say there's been no shortage of cash on both projects.
