Spain international star Torres swapped Merseyside outfit Liverpool for London giants Chelsea in January 2011.
It was a controversial move and did not go down well with many of
the Reds fans, but the 31-year-old has now claimed that former England international midfielder Gerrard gave him his backing.
“There is one player that influenced me above anyone else and that is Gerrard,”
the AC Milan-owned star told The Sun.
“He changed my career, my ambition, the way of raising my targets, wanting to win, he changed everything.
“Even when I was leaving Liverpool he told me ‘go, think about yourself. Do what’s best for you because
you’ve seen how people are leaving and it’s time. You have nothing to prove’.”
Torres struggled during his time at Chelsea, but he is one of the best strikers to have played for Liverpool.
It was at Anfield that the Spaniard developed into a world-class player, but one can understand why he moved to Chelsea.

Chelsea were on the up at the time, and
leaving the Reds for the Blues was a step-up in his career.
It seems that Gerrard realised that, and also the fact that Torres was ambitious and wanted to win big things.
Hahahaha. Good old Stevie 'one club' me. Crying that he never made the move to the 'big club' Chelsea.
