Koff with the Rome talk ya blerts.
lol...rest assured mate, I will never employ the 'crossing the Rubicon' idiom/theme in this forum ever again. I still maintain however, that the tipping point re LFC's continued global brand/presence, has been seen and indeed, said brand is actually in decline.

So that feller ^^^^^ (the blubbering, sobbing wreck Echo hack at the Crystanbul game), argues that Liverpool are 'not at the top table' because they've fallen into the trap of selling high and then not replacing them with quality...and it's all about H&G and now 'moneyball'.

Liverpool's transfer business in the last 10 seasons shows a net spend though of £174M, so basically he's hiding the fact that Liverpool's managers have been funded more than every other club except for a handful in Britain and Europe in the last decade but they've wasted it on tosh.

Of course, that doesn't fit the cult party line they're the victims of asset stripping and everyone's holding them back.

Someone needs to tell them Dave.

I'm sure you'll do it!

Don't change Deipy. These meffs just can't handle a bit of class and culture, but you still have to bring it.

Attention! Daniel"Studger"Sturridge has a message for the whole human race:

What a relief. Hopefully the boat people in the Mediterranean and the survivors of the Nepal earthquake can take comfort from this heartening news.

They're in a different werld aren't they Dave.

Daniel Sturridge has a poorly hip.

Limp on. Limp on.

Historically, the Rome altruistic hegemony regressed in 49BC when Julius Caesar's army , the river Rubicon crossed...and republic thenceforth became meglomaniac militaristic empire. Liverpool's Rubicon has well and truly been crossed...their regression/denouement is as similarly and irreversibly underway.

By the bye, the USA currently finds itself in similar Rome-like denouement (socially/morally, financially and politically). I suggest that within half a generation, light hearted banter on a football forum will be the last thing on our minds. My country (NZ) and fellow US empire lapdogs( UK, Canada and Australia) all will get what we deserve

"alea iacta est"...the die is cast

It all ended on the destruction of the triumvirate of:

H&G and the Spaniard

When that fell Rome literally collapsed into backbiting; over hyped, over priced and media spin by the modern - Marcus Aemilius Lepidus - otherwise known as BRENDAN 'GNASHERS' RODGERS waffle waffle waffle

For those interested:

Marcus Aemilius Lepidus has been characterised as "weak, indecisive, fickle, disloyal and incompetent"

Remind you of anyone in particular @davek ?

I regret NOTHING.
You receiving my negs.

Beyond all the FSG bluster about building for the future and 'no short termism' for them at Liverpool, their main business and cash cow was and remains the Red Sox. Liverpool was always just an opportunity they leapt on that was too good to turn down at the knock down price it was bought at. I doubt they really want to build dynasties in a sports organisation over here. They are North American based and wont give a toss about the status owning Liverpool affords them, merely the cash.

With that in mind - and the sale of LFC they will trigger after the stadium restructuring is complete - I'd have thought it'd be more pragmatic to turn the wage taps on a bit and rein in the transfer fees. That'd entail bringing in older players to the club who are confirmed top quality, but who are on frees or for sale at a lower price and will jump at the chance of a last big pay day. Not loads of them, but enough to leaven out the younger talent who dont have big game experience. Liverpool did that before a while back with players like Litmanen and Riedle. A mix of that nature would serve their CL cause better than the present policy of bringing in expensive potential.

This is what them lot should be doing each season, bringing in the likes of Fabien Schar, Yarmolenko and Andre Ayew on frees or small fees, coupled with a older proven heads such as Yohan Cabaye for example.

Instead they chase big names like Benzema, Higuain, Cavani and Lavezzi thinking that they are still relevant and actually have a chance over the likes of PSG, Munich and Barcelona's of the world. The result is they fail to bring in the players mentioned and end up spunking £20m on players like Lallana, Lovren and Markovic out of desperation. They are a deluded bunch, do they not realise that they bought Alonso, Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Torres, Suarez and Masherano for relatively cheap prices and kept the hunger within the squad.

Even today their best players are potential that were bought for cheap, willing to prove themselves, Sterling and coutinho to name two.
We will still see the same this summer i feel, chasing Cavani and end up paying £20m for Soldado or Adebayor ;)

Liverpool FC worth nearly $1bn and in world football's 'Super Six' says Forbes
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/liverpool-fc-worth-nearly-1bn-9198074
......
Liverpool FC’s value has jumped by 42% to almost $1bn (£644m) with the club now ranked the eighth most valuable football club in the world in this year’s Forbes list.
It means the value of the club has jumped by almost $300m in just 12 months after being valued at $691m in last year’s table where the Reds were ranked in 10th place.

Liverpool have leap-frogged Italian giants Juventus (ninth) and AC Milan (10th) primarily on the back of the recent £5.136billion domestic television deal for Premier League clubs.
If that is the good news the bad news for owners FSG and chief executive Ian Ayre is that Liverpool’s Premier League rivals are expanding at just as quick or at an even greater rate.
Real Madrid retain their place as the most valuable football team in the world for a third straight year, but Manchester United could soon topple them. The reigning European champions’ value has dropped 5% to £2.13billion this year, with Barcelona second with a value of £2.07billion..................

I wonder if their supporters who "only ever read The Echo" are struck by the irony of two LFC articles this morning. The first above and also a piece tinged with criticism on their transfer aspirations. Talk of Depay giving them the knock back in favour of United and then their tight-arse stance with Skrtel...supposedly one of their star turns..."The Anfield club inexplicably waited until last week to offer the Slovakian an extension, but with the defender entering the final 12 months of his contract the Reds no longer hold all the aces....And Inter Milan boss Mancini is willing to take advantage of the stand-off...... " Throw the ticket-price demonstrations and the fans being bled dry into the mix, Im amazed there haven't been ructions towards FSG etc over it....or maybe apathy is taking over from their usual hysterics.

indeed the republic was a becoming a shambles when Ceasar acted, a slave orientated society with the average roman starving and out of work, would have been interesting if Ceasar would have acted as Sulla did and relinquished his dictatorship upon his passing and returned Rome to a republic once he had addressed these issue's, he also took Rome with far less bloodshed than Sulla

ps rodgers is a bell

Well probably not the best place for a discussion on Rome fascinating discussion though it is! My view on Ceasar is controversial.

However the wider point was, that not only do they love to invoke historical/spiritual references to suit their football club, for the most part these are inaccurate. It's a small point, but given they like to portray themselves as the Stephen Fry's of the football world, when you actually delve into what they are saying it rarely stands up.
