ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

When Sterling left QPR everyone accepted that he was trying to better his career. At that time, he had a better chance of 1st team football at QPR and he owed them far more loyalty than he now owes LFC.

Liverpool did well out of him, they got a quality player for a small amount of money, he's performed very well for them and they are now effectively making several hundred % profit on his sale.

He's off to better his career again, it's a step up to the Champions League and competing for the league. Yeah he risks spending more time on the bench, but he's backing himself again.

Presumably LFC will now use this money to prise other 'disloyal' players away from Southampton or Villa. Nobody will mention this of course, the narrative will be, 'good move for all parties'.

The real story here is that LFC had a guaranteed seat at the top table until recently. They are now learning what the rest of the league have had to swallow for years, that outside of that top four is a separate division. The four clubs that are there now may slip out of it occasionally but unless you can keep one of them out for 4-5 seasons in a row you simply cannot bridge the gap.

This is the bit that will be grating for them. The top four looks pretty solid. Spurs are doing all the right things and may well challenge Arsenal and even for all their money and commercial clout and having the biggest fan base in der werld, they know that they are in competition with Southampton, Spurs and ourselves...........of course the deluded ones will never admit it........

He really loves dressing up doesn't he......Fowler could have made a bit of an effort though.........

I've no idea how Argentina keep faith with him. He's destroyed two finals for them in the space of 12 months. I saw Napoli a few times toward the end of last season and he looks disinterested and/or shot in confidence terms.

Maybe Brendan's man management skills can turn him into a world beater? :coffee:
He might not make him a better footballer but he'll definitely make him a better person.

They're in the city here now, playing tomorrow night. You can feel it in the air too.

There was some event in the CBD tonight, or at least I think there was. All I could see was giant New Balance billboards, a massive sign that said "CLUB MERCHANDISE HERE" and a stack of morbidly obese men in full kits and scarves. And the traffic was utterly ruined by them, the complete quilts.

All of the people that I learned were kopites around March 2014, and then didn't mention them for the next 18 months for some reason have come back out of the woodwork. Tomorrow night will be unbearable.

Despite Benteke being linked elsewhere, I think Liverpool will be signing him

On one hand, it's a strange signing as he doesn't fit Rodgers "vision"

On the other hand, at his best he's a force of nature and he'd make their attack better by proxy

I'm interested to see how they do next season. How they start will be very important. They have a bad patch followed by a defeat to us at Goodison and I think Rodgers will be on thin ice. A decent start which see's them in the top 4 mix will probably mean Rodgers will be able to cling on.

We'll see anyway. We play them on my birthday weekend in October, so hopefully the football God's throw me a bone and we can finally break the curse and score a win over them

Seriously, is Raheem Sterling at 49 mil' any better than Kevin Mirallas who cost about 5/6 million?
I don't think so and some probably think he's not as good. Is that going too far?

right now no.

difference being city paid for the player over the next 10 years if he continues to improve. No player is ready made at his age so they have invested in the player he will become rather than the player he is now.

Whether he becomes that player time will tell
