Brendan Rodgers has signed a total of 32 players, spending £289m. Over a quarter of a billion. Trophies won = 0

£289m............Just think what could be done with that?!

Every player we've bought (for a disclosed fee) since 2009/10 season - total cost £117m = £272m left

LCC's purchase of FF was £13m = £259m

Running costs of FF approx £1m per year x 50 years £50m = £209m left

DK was meant to have cost £78m (all-in) = £131m left.

Now let's have some fun.......

West Tower cost £35m to build, so we'll include that (as a property investment) = £96m left.

India sent a probe to Mars for £45m = £51m left.

£51m = debt cleared.

And to think brenda's spunked all that on cack.

It's a staggering record. I doubt there's a worse pound for pound record in terms of failure in world football. An unbelievable outcome that makes FSG's decision to give him another chance baffling.

He (Milner) seems intent on pushing this pivotal role for himself in central midfield. IMO that's just a waste of what he does best: operate (vaguely) wide right running at the opposition.

Any decent manager he's had in the past at domestic or international level have never used him centrally - he's just not cut out for that role, regardless of the player's own belief that he was marvellous at it during his spell at Villa. He'll get caught time and time again there, and Rodgers never likes playing a holding cm player if he can help it, so that's going to be *ahem* interesting.

Of all the signings they have made, it's the Milner one who is getting the most bizarre Kopite love in with the way they are going on about him. They are banding words around like "world class" and going on about his league winner medals. Some are carrying on like he was a pivotal part of City's success. I think they reckon he is going to be the new Gerrard for them so the hero worship has begun.

The sombre analysis is they have taken a caste off from a side who were well off the pace last season. He is the equivalent of a Phil Neville. He'll be a water carrier in a decent team. Essentially he is overhyped Osman.

I was listening to them talking about their best 11's and Milner seems to be irreplaceable to them. There's a lot of "whatever formation we use, Milner and Hendo are dead certs" normally followed up with "it won't be like Gerrard and Lampard though". That's exactly what it will end up like though, but Lampard and Gerrard several leagues below. Sticking two lads in central midfield together who's main attribute is their headless chicken running is not going to bode well.

The real irony of it all and the lad I feel sorry for (as far as one can) is Lucas. He steadied the ship last season by actually doing the job of a defensive midfield player, while Slippy and Hendo miserably failed in that role. When he went out of the team it didn't surprise me that they struggled again. It's funny that they have learnt nothing from last season whatsoever. Milner and Hendo as a combination has all the hallmarks of a terrible midfield being completely outfoxed and overran.

As for Milner, I used to quite like him. Seemed like an honest if a bit dense plodding workhorse. I obviously had him a bit wrong though, and he actually believes he is a playmaker type in the mould of a David Silva. He's moralised his own discourse enough to invent the idea that he was good in cm for Villa (I remember him being poor in that position). In the end only a weak manager and a man who likes to pamper delusions would ever have accepted Milner spouting off like this. Step forward Rodgers.

It highlights what a weak manager he is. The players know it. They know they can tell him where they are playing in public. This is where the "tactical genius" and "flexibility" of Rodgers come from. He hasn't got the balls to design a formation, and stick to it. He flip flops around to try and keep ego's happy. This season is going to be a car crash for them. I mean where is the logic on buying a target man who needs crosses, not having any wingers, signing a winger who excels in crosses and sticking him in a position he won't do that?

Great summary. That's exactly where they are going into this season.

I'm convinced that in the end they'll have to play Milner in the only position he can play in order to get any joy out of Benteke, leaving a Gerrard-lite Henderson the task of creating from midfield. Liverpool are going to be like a Villa team of the recent past. I'd question also how you accommodate players like Coutinho and Firmino in the team together. That looks like over-egging the pudding to me. If they were involved in the Champions League it might be important to add depth to the squad in that way. The Firmino money could have been put to better use replacing Sterling. It all looks like an ill-thought out set of signings, more designed to quell dissent than build a successful season. Basically it's what comes of allowing a manager who is clearly third rate to continue in his post and extend his mindless recruitment into a fourth season.

Don't quite understand your math at the beginning mate.

289-117 is 172, not 272.

Well yes. The Coutinho Conundrum is the best example of their scattergun approach. He needs to be playing centrally but will be shunted out wide to accommodate Milner. He seems like quite a down to earth lad, signed a long term deal etc. It's obvious he doesn't stamp his feet loudly, so Rodgers will just shift him around to accommodate the bigger egos.

I'm not really sure why they have bought Firmino. He plays in a position where they are already over subscribed ("inside forward") I'd describe it. In the end, you can only conclude as you've stated above it is to quell discontent. They wanted some big names. Ian Ayre has made Kenwright look competent in recent transfer windows so has just gone and spent a load of money on a computer game player is an apparent show of strength and competency.

Then he signs Benteke. It doesn't matter how many times they parrot repeat "he doesn't just score goals off crosses" this is in essence what he does. It's like when we said "there's more to Fergusans game than heading crosses". Both could do a bit more, but they don't do it very well.

What is clear is their transfer strategy has little to do with buying players they need to improve the team/squad. It is all to do with calming/easing the collective neurosis of the fans who can't hack they aren't a big club anymore. There is the added twist that Rodgers laps it all up and is the conductor of the musical. They are akin to a C list celebrity going shopping at Harrods and ringing OK magazine to tell them all the expensive things they've bought to paper over their decline. Jim Davidson with money.

Their delusion is bubbling up nicely. They're trying to be guarded about it so when it falls flat they can pretend they weren't expecting much anyway but you can tell they think they're going to challenge for the title and do strongly in all cups.

In reality Migno is average, their defence is largely slow and ponderous with little depth, if Hendo and Milny are definitely starters, along with, you would presume, Benters and Studge that leaves Couters, the welsh xavi, Ingsy, Balo, Lambo, Lala, Firmy, Ibe, Can and Origi fighting for two places.

Brendan has literally no idea what he's doing. I'm not on a wind up, with Europa league I think they could struggle to finish top 8.

D'oh! There goes the martian probe, the west tower & 20 years off FF. (Have I got the sums right now?)

I blame that polish lager meself.........

Mate if we're not travelling to Mars we might as well blow the whole thing and drop down to League I mean what's the point
