Either way, the screwed up footie for a long, long time and forgive me if I sound a bit bitter, but Everton were arguably the biggest loser as we would have had a phenomenally good chance in the European Cup that year, we were the best team in Europe and everyone knew it !

Totally agree.
They also helped screw up Scottish football. With no Euro footy on offer, players such as Trevor Steven, Gary Stevens etc joined Rangers so they could play in Europe. Killed the league as it was the same time that Rangers got huge investment. Celtic then had to spend big to try and compete and that just left everyone else in their wake.
If English clubs still had Euro football, those players wouldn't have joined Rangers.
