ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I disagree. Klopp had his first full season last time out and got to two finals, even if the PL got away from him. He'll have no Europe this time to sap energy and distract and he has money to spend ALWAYS (FSG wont deny him a big signing in January if it looks like CL football is looking realistic...and a very good player will look at it and gamble that they can join and see CL football next season).

Klopp is consistently a good manager. He's always got his teams competitive and in the shake up for trophies. I'd take him over all other managers in this league barring Wenger, who has been immense in his consistency for two decades. He wont win them the PL this season, and Liverpool will have slumps in form, but I'd be amazed if they weren't in the CL next season.

You've just confirmed my point Dave, 2 finals, 2 losses. The fellas a tried and tested loser.

Martinez got us to 2 semis losing to the winners of the competition twice and was chased for not being good enough.

W.O.W. That sounds like you think Roberto was chased for losing 2 semis.

If Koeman got us to 2 finals in his 1st season, (which is now impossible & it's only October) I think we'd all be very optimistic over Ronald & the future. If Koeman lost said finals, would that make him a tried and tested loser? Serious question. Be good if you could answer it. Hell, if Ronald got us the Cup Final he'd be lauded.

I like SAF playing mind games with them again.

Stating that he thinks they will challenge for the prem.
He knows full well they won't and by him adding to their growing egos he knows it's nothing but a banana skin he's putting in front of them.
He's a wise old owl is Sir Alex.

He'll more than likely be a tournament manager, not a league manager.

No doubt he'll do well for Belgium. But long term football over a season isn't his strong point.

Klopp is a very good manager. No doubt about that.

I know they are used to wrapping the title up by the end of November, or by Christmas, and that they regularly win the alternative Premier League, but to do it by the end of October?

I can only hope we give them a guard of honour at Goodison when they visit in December, it's the least they deserve.

Wasn't a full season Dave. He gambled on us winning the Europa league at the expense of league position and the result was a fair one. The defence looks more dolid in open play but a set piece still can cane us. Think we wont win the league though.

I think you're miles off having a solid defence, tbh. And the two GKs look about the same level. I dont understand why Klopp didn't take Horn from Cologne. He's about the best of the new young German GKs and presumably he'd jump at the chance of playing for Klopp? Still, the midfield is pretty talented and has a lot of attacking intent that can make up for an attack that doesn't really have a spearhead still as far as I'm concerned.

He's never replaced an icon like Vieira, who he built his success on - that's been the major problem.
You're correct, however for me they've had a reasonable number of opportunities to rectify the glaringly obvious weaknesses in their squad.

People may question their defence, yet personally they've been a quality striker short of challenging for the league post-February or March.

One large outlay in this department, which they've shown they can do, would potentially push them to the next tier of the game and onto success.

Instead, Wenger continues to rely on the likes of an injury prone Walcott, a reasonable but nothing spectacular Giroud and a so-so Chamberlain.

Even their purchase of Perez (who we were after) is nothing spectacular. I know it's not easy to get a top striker but I think they could do so.

So don't get me wrong Dave, Wenger is a good manager who can offer stability and consistency. My point is he has lost his killer instinct.

He's comfortable where he is and finds it difficult to stray from the fragile approach of maturing talent, when one or two big outlays could fix it.

And from all accounts the money is there if they really required it - they just prefer to not upset their stable model.

I said it was looking "more solid" .

Thats the problem with Wenger the last few seasons, they always lack that one key player, for a while it was a keeper,a dominant midfielder,a striker, they have the money but hes very reluctant to splash the cash and its cost them a couple of titles at least but the board seem happy with top 4 finishes so theres no real pressure on him

Yeah, I think he's cosseted by the Kronke regime a bit too much. Kronke leaves him alone to do what he wants and backs him to the hilt and seems satisfied with constant CL qualification + a cup every so often. Wenger might be coasting a bit...although he does seem very angry when they blow opportunities to push on. They really should have won that title last season. Spurs and Leicester to beat for it. He wont get that chance again.

I think they'll keep him around for as long as he keeps getting them into the CL; the amount of money he has made for them (and the changes he has enabled allowing to make that money) is too much to risk in order to chase a league title (especially when its against clubs spending idiot money on players).
