ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Looks like they'll be throwing the cash about this summer, but having money and spending it well are two completely different things. £30m on Pickford, £25m on Klaassen... and if they get Sigurdsson and Keane, that's probably another £60m. Sandro looks good at that price though, to be fair."

"So big money signings, but do any of those players get into the starting XI of a top six club? Will definitely help them consolidate seventh, but don't see how it allows them to challenge top four."

The irony from a team that spent £60m on downing and Carroll.

That's the funny thing Chris, they just don't see it.

I mentioned it to my RS mate about some of the crap they have bought for huge money, his answer, they can afford to gamble and lose money, we can't.

They are the most bizarre set of fans in the world, everyone in the country laughs at them yet they think that they are looked upon as magical.

It's definitely a cult; I work with a fella who has a season ticket. In the last 3 years I've never heard him say "we got lucky there" or "deserved that hammering".

I can feel a massive rant coming on Lou, I need a lie down

Its one of the defining differences (one of them like) between us and them. Ive got one ok-ish RS mate who has tried a few times to stick the knife in when weve been playing terrible/losing badly etc. Ive often interjected on the lines of "were in this slump because weve been garbage... no ifs or buts". Apart from shutting him up pronto, it completely blocks his efforts to wind me up so he nearly self implodes with frustration. Every single time too.

A work colleague of mine is a STH on the kop, and is always sound to be fair, takes his blue supporting wife to a couple of our games a season (old school). But even he is beginning to wobble, his comment yesterday was "30 million for a prospect and a free stadium, what's going on?".

They can't though. They almost went into administration the year before buying Andy Carroll. Had to be bailed out massively by Fenway - yet talk about them like they are the devil incarnate.

First rule of gambling. Only bet what you can afford to lose.

Those players that have minor risks associated with them cost proportionally more. This is were Liverpool fall down compared to others challenging for Champions League places- they pay that additional amount for more risky transfers that the others would for less risky players. You might get lucky with a Suarez, but then you get Caroll or Aspas or Borini.

Mind you the current price inflation might negate that.
