ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I wouldn't want them to get VVD but the RS's defensive problems run a lot deeper than just signing good individuals, they completely lack defensive organisation.

Even if they got someone like VVD I don't believe the improvement won't be that drastic as it's a collective, organisational issue coming form the managers' philosophy on how he wants to play.

He's not the first to have this issue, managers like Keegan, Guardiola, modern day Wenger, Martinez and now Klopp all struggle with and as long as he's there I think they'll always struggle defensively.

7 clean sheets in last 8 PL games. I wouldn't worry much

I know, sounds great until we mention the 3 conceded against Watford and how costly those 2 dropped points may be at the end of the season.

The 2 clean sheets against 2 of the worst sides in the league at the moment may disguise it and fool a few but the 3 defensive horror shows against Hoffenheim and Watford have proved that those days are still just around the corner and they happen far too often for them to win a league.

Obviously I don't have to point this out, every man and his dog knows it, including RS fans.

I actually think the 2 centre halfs they have are pretty good, (only conceded 1 goal in open play).
As you say it seems to be specific to dead ball threats and lack of organisation. Maybe a keeper would solve that for them as Mignolet has a tendancy to stick to his line.

I've just checked that and wondered why the hell that hasent been pointed out.

Said a few times on here, i thikn Loveren and Matip are better centre halfs than people think, i changed my mind on them in last years goodison derby, we threw everything at them 1st half and they didnt flinch.

I would put money on it that if they sign Van Dijk and go on to keep 7 out of 8 clean sheets, it would be out there in every report, every interview on hopw much he has improved them defensivly.
It helps the mto spin the narrative that they are terrible at the back as when people go on to look at the stats, people will think its the big money signing that has improved it

VVD would improve anyone's defence,he's a class act, quick, tall, good on the ball and reads the game well and can play the high line that they play.

Their defence is very Jekyll and Hyde, they don't concede much in the bigger games but then make defensive silly mistakes against the lesser teams.

If they sign him and Lemar to go with Keita they have a pretty good spine of a team for the next 5 years,i'm guessing next summer they will target a top goalkeeper.

Maybe there's room somewhere for a Clough-Taylor / Mercer-Allison, combo.
iirc, Paisley was the invisible partner with Shankly and Moran and Evans his. There was some sort of continuity.
Is this bringing your own team part of the problem...aka The Steve Round yes men...and on the boss ploughs with nobody pulling him up on it, even on the quiet.

Have to say Klopp is targeting good players. All the players he goes for can play and have pace. Their attack and ours at the moment are absolutely worlds apart.

Them.... lol

steady now kurt, at least it's ventured out of the van dijk thread. I mean, it's over a month ago now since it said the RS beat chelsea and city to the signing, but still. It was surely just interested in van dijk coming to everton given the mass of media reporting it and accidentally wnet off topic.
