ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

They were never 16 points clear of second place. You're getting confused, they were 16 points clear of Real Madrid.

Suarez always padded his record with goals against the lesser teams, hattricks agaisnt Norwich etc.
All teams are ageing, it's the nature of nature. The majority of the team is under 30 and those that aren't are all time greats, one of them is the greatest player that's ever graced the game.
They've just signed Liverpool's best player don't forget.

You're back pedalling now...was it the lack of domestic competition or the 'odd' formations? Come on son, you're floundering here... I'll give you another go.

Remember they won the CL in 2013 when they won the Bundesliga by 25 points.

I'm with you that it's hyperbole to try and dismiss Barcelona this season but they are going to need to patch up their squad in the coming years with big names making their way out. Messi is 31 this year but I could see him still being unbelievable when he's 34-35, other than his quick acceleration to get away from players in bursts he hardly relies on the physical side of the game in the same way Ronaldo does. As for Bayern I still think they would be the nightmare draw for Liverpool next round. They do everything well and just seem to pressure other sides in to mistakes, they could easily end the tie at the Allianz. oh and I've said it before but Coutinho was never the best player at Liverpool it's Firmino. He gets injured and they are done. Pretty much everything they do is the knock on effect of him dragging defenders all over the place. His movement opens up the space for Salah and Mane. It's no wonder they are all terrified of his contract situation, he has a good world cup and his release clause will look a bargain (think it's about 80m).

Yeah I've just read that, think he's definitely on his way.

Thing is their debt just by over £20m in the latest accounts (with the earlier equity conversion they have over £200m accounted for which doesn't actually belong to the club) and they haven't started to pay off the Big Stand yet. Even with the competitive rate they secured on the loan, the compound interest soon adds up if you don't pay promptly. 1.24% on a loan of £100m or so....well the maths is easy on that isn't it? It's FSG milking the club but their fans aren't renowned for their intelligence and haven't really noticed it. Most of them are still doing cartwheels over the equity conversion as it means the debt 'vanished'....apparently. Like i say, not the brightest.

They'd have to give Firmino a huge increase that they can't afford, especially as it'd result in teammates seeking the same sort of increases.

Their wage bill has already soared past the £200million mark. Even with the increase in revenues it's still turnover/wage bill ratio of around 70%. Put simply that isn't sustainable, even with CL football. It's why Coutinho left, they gave him a daft salary that a club of their size couldn't deal with.

Their situation is far more perilous than folk would have you believe.

Regardless of age they're all still fantastic players. Your lot have two, Salah and Firmino, out you go next round, no matter who you get.

Roma with second leg at home nailed on forbthe vermin. They all know it as well, that’s how much trust they have in their pact with the devil. Not one of them is expecting a second leg away tie at Barca or Bayern, not one of them.

Satan always screws you over eventually.

I’ve posted it a few times already in this thread but I’ll do so again just so I can say I told you so in the summer. Firminho’s off and he’s told them so already.

They’re not happy but they’ve accepted it and in turn he never kicked up a stink in January but he will do in the summer of f they renage on there agreement.

He’s out of there. He wants to go somewhere he can win trophies, on a regular basis, whilst playing alongside other great players.

Hmm, where is he going to go to win trophies ? He’s a good player but I can’t see any elite level teams being interested in him.

True I don't think he's that great.

However he's using the clause to screw the club over. A new contract would've been signed by now if he wanted to stay.

Think PSG would take him.

Fair bit of chicken counting going on over at the pit.

They're only 7 points ahead of Chelsea. Uf they lose to United at the weekend and Chelsea beat palace at home its down to 4. They then have to go to the bridge, Chelsea win that and they only have to find an extra point from the remaining fixtures.

The mutants could easily let this slip.

Wish we had them sort of problems, but I see what you mean.

Well yeah id swap places but the way they're talking you'd think it was already secured.

With debt levels rising as quickly as their wages they really need CL football next year. Be interesting to see if they bottle it this time like they bottled it in 2014.

They'll end up with the same amount of meaningful silverware as us this season. The history books are not bothered who finished second third fourth or tenth.
What we're going to get a "We Beat City Shield" and "Top of the League in December Title"? Because that's better than I could ever expect 2018 to give us.

They'll add the 'Counting your Chickens' cup to the collection.
