Depressing having to go through the motions here tonight. They''re through.

Hopefully Friday brings a Madrid/Barcelona fixture for Murder Incorporated and we can all start preparing for a pain free end of season, and a summer that brings us a decent manager.

Wish I shared your optimism for the semis Dave, just can't get it out of my head that they're gonna win it and have thought so for ages now.

Never pans out that way with this lot in this comp. Away draw second leg hopefully for them at Barca or Real but they’re so streaky they could just as easily lose 4-0 tonight as they could win at the Nou Camp. It’s what that lot love, never consistent enough to win the league but the media adore it and every decade or so the planets might align for them in the CL.

I honestly thought City would put them out but everything possible went for them in that first leg.

Only plus is that City have to go full throttle all night, they have no choice, there won’t be any controlled middle ground, they’ll either be destroyed on the counter or pull off an amazing comeback but either way they just have to keep attacking to the end.

If the Kopites lose tonight the Anfield Ultra's will be at it again, I understand that there's lots of them with tickets with the City fans. They can't take a beating so expect a big kick off if they get one. Don't worry too much no way Barca, Madrid or Bayern would lose against them in the semi.

I hope not mate, there will be trouble for sure if so.

Barcelona or Madrid wouldn't lose a match to Liverpool and they wont be outscored by them.

It's over on Friday afternoon if they pull either of them out the hat, and it wont matter one jot if they have home advantage in the return leg either.

Dave you are a legend!
It's a pretty easy call tbf. I said I couldn't see them beating City over two legs but at the same time I always maintained that it was important that both Spanish giants got through to the SFs as it would just guarantee their elimination if they did get past City.

I really dont know how anyone makes a case for Liverpool against Barcelona or Madrid.

Just for funsies, neither of their defences have faced a Liverpool front line in full on counter attacking mode in their domestic leagues, and probably not in CL either, for some time.

No matter who they get in the semi (if they get through tonight, I’m not so sure it’s over yet) UEFA will not have these in the final, under no circumstances. They have finally burnt their bridge with the powers that be.

I dont think anyone will have to school Barcelona in particular on the dangers of pressing high up the pitch.

You also have to factor this in: they are hugely more important to the tournament than Liverpool are. They are true global giants (as opposed to Liverpool who sell loads of key rings in Asia). They will intimidate officials just simply by being Barcelona or Madrid. That means any overly enthusiastic challenges on their players in their own half being - and especially around their penalty area - contested with all the sound and fury of clubs who KNOW they are bigger than UEFA. Liverpool will face a massive uphill struggle with either...and any club in the world would, tbf.
