ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Of course we could well go out. There are four teams left and only one can lift the trophy. We hope it's us, but it may not be. Even if it's not, we will have enjoyed in one single campaign more joy and excitement than your own club has this century. It's about being there. About trying to achieve great things. Often falling short, but yes, sometimes getting there and winning too. It's about the experience, the passion for the game, the great clubs we face. It's about the prestige. About taking risks and being willing to fail in order to try to achieve.

All these things obviously don't compute for your miserable, negative and joyless fanbase. If/when we get knocked out some may well shed a few tears. So what? At least our fans will have had an absolutely fantastic journey this season, and at least we will have tried, unlike your own shower of utter cowards. At least our pain will come through giving our all and trying our best. Your pain comes from being abject failures year in, year out. Your pain comes from seeing us do well, and your only comfort in life comes from when we lose. Your pain comes through having to live vicariously because you can't do it yourselves.

We are enjoying the ride. What are your lot doing? The two wins over City (you know, the team your lot said would slaughter us) have been amazing, joyous occasions. That's two in a week, and that pretty much adds up to the same amount of truly joyous occasions your lot have had in your entire history in European competition. I remember those you had, too. Bayern at home then Rapid Wien. That's it. Your full compliment of big occasions. You actually had a good side then. A side with talent and balls. A side willing to try. A side willing to fail in order to eventually achieve. What have you got now? A shithouse team with a shithouse manager whose only joy in life comes through the failures of others with the balls to actually try themselves.

We could go out in the Semis, or we could get beat in the final, but [Poor language removed] me, what a fantastic ride it's been for our players and our fans. In the meantime, what have your lot done since the 1980s? It must be tragic being a bitter blue. I mean it must be so difficult knowing your own club are irrelevant and impotent. So much so that you have to live through the exploits of others you once loathed. Where is your pride? Where is your dignity? Now you have to live through a foreign club for the remainder of the season because you can't do it yourselves.

Tears? Yes, there may well be a few. But at least they will be earned rather than the self-pitying tears you lot shed every year after doing nothing at all. At least any tears we shed will come at the end of a fantastic, exciting campaign rather than a limp, damp squib of a season like you lot have annually. We may fail, but at least we will have tried. Thing is; your club would sell its soul for experiences like ours. You would too, though you won't admit it. Anyway, carry on with your sad, bitter vicarious living. To be honest, if I had to live like that I think I'd end it all, or at least completely re-evaluate my life first. Needing others to fail in order to feel ok about yourselves is deeply unhealthy you know. In the meantime, we'll just carry on and see where all this takes us, if that's ok with you....

Cringe.

Oh yeah, that's the Proper Fans who will square up to each other, no bother.. I suspect that Roma and Liverpool will NOT be meeting each other in the semi-finals. With any luck.. BM or RM in the semi for that lot.
If I were UEFA I'd be warming the match-draw balls up right now: two hot ones Liverpool and Madrid. Get these animals out of the tournament ASAP.

I remember that. It was an own goal by Benzema that settled the tie wasn’t it?

No, Big Ben scored at the right end and Madrid recorded a 1-0 win.

But Brent waxed lyrical about how the RS played compared to the Anfield match and the Kopites claimed a moral victory :pint2:

We’re talking about Real Madrid here not City. The team going for the 3rd win in a row and by far and away the most decoratored club in Europe in the 1 competition they really want.

As good as teams like City and PSG are they’re all just pretenders and learning. City downed tools last night as soon as the poor RS side (who looked absolutely terrified up to then) scored with there first real attack. The accumulation of bad decisions and the goal drained the life out of them, they gave in.

PSG did it against Barcelona last year. They froze again this year as soon as they encountered Real who did the opposite and stepped up and showed there experience and class.

Last night was the warning Real needed, they thought it was won in the first leg but they had the experience to fight but back and get the job done. They won’t take there eye off the prize again.

It was very noticeable over the two nights that the teams carrying the big leads into the second leg struggled with how to approach the games tactically.

The RS were battered in the first half and should have been two down at half time, Madrid were rocked back on their heels and Barcelona collapsed.

There seemed to be a real rabbit in the headlights scenario as they didn’t know whether to stick or twist and opposition which had no other option to get up and at ‘em really set the tone.

Agree. The difference last night with Madrid though was that they actually played well throughout the game and created gilt edged chances. I dont think they were like a rabbit frozen by headlights. The CB position was the problem with Ramos out and Mandzukic in fine form for Juve.

No one is going to "smash them". Whatever tie they end up getting it will be a close run thing. I wish our fans would learn.

I disagree, they've been smashed quite a few times already this year.

I think when they play a top side and fall behind meaning they have to take a few risks they'll get torn to bits.

No they won't. They've been "smashed" once, against City with 10 men. No one is going to tear them to bits, you know that deep down. I just wish our fans would stop talking like this. No wonder they laugh at us.

Ronaldo is the only one I have faith in to see them off

Their midfield of Kroos and Modric terrifies me. Great players, but neither are interested/capable of breaking up one of their counter attacks. They'll get in behind that midfield more than I want to think about, if they do then it's curtains.

They got smashed by Tottenham even more so than by City.

So? You're comparing an away league game in October to a two-legged tie in the semi finals of the Champions League, they are nothing alike.

I’m not arguing with you mate, there’s no point.

You said no one is going to smash them, I proved to you that they can do and in 2 instances already have done so.

My work is done.
