Eduardo charged with 'deceiving the ref'

Im not. My name has 3 letters from the word Christ in, 1 of which is an i. And my birthday is the 27th December, so not only do I nearly sound like Christ, but I was nearly born on the same day.

If you give up ask Neb or Dutch, they know the answer.

My wife was born on Christmas day and her initials were JC.

It's about time.

Now...if this is just a one-off, then Arsenal have been royally screwed.

BUT...if UEFA, FA, or whoever is willing to do this with all clubs, then we're headed in the right direction.

Watching Soccer Saturday and to a man they are thinking two things:

1. Can of worms has been opened
2. Why now?

Well to answer these obviously blinded questions and statements. A can of worms has not been opened, Uefa have signaled an intent to stamp out cheating in the game.

And why now? Well why the **** not? It has to start sometime.

Really annoys me that all we have talked about since the Premier League began has been about cheating and how we can stamp it out - as soon as something is starting to be done everyone seems to disagree with it.

It's madness, complete and utter madness.

I do believe its actually in the official laws of the game that a free kick (and therefor penalty) can be awarded for "jumping at an opponent". In other words if you attempt to make a tackle which involves that and it makes the player lose control of the ball it is a foul regardless of whether any contact is made.

So there possibly could be a slight chance thats why the ref gave the penalty, although its blatantly obvious that Eduardo dived to win the penalty as opposed to jumping out the way and letting the ref award it for the above mentioned reasons.

Of course its good if UEFA are going to clamp down on cheaters in the game, but it should of been done a long time ago instead of now singleling out one player after ignoring lots others. And it needs to be enforced across the board.

Is potentially opening a can of worms that could cause some big problems.

It will probably go the way of the whole respect stuff though.
Think we all agree it should have been done a long time ago but if they are going to continue with this policy, as seems to be the idea, it's not really singling out someone.
Then again, they probably could have picked a weekend where there are any number of blatant dives around Europe and sanctioned a dozen players at the same time thus avoiding some of the controversy

I think they have decided to do it this season, and have picked out a massively controversial incident to start the ball rolling. First one of the season I believe.
