I do believe its actually in the official laws of the game that a free kick (and therefor penalty) can be awarded for "jumping at an opponent". In other words if you attempt to make a tackle which involves that and it makes the player lose control of the ball it is a foul regardless of whether any contact is made.
So there possibly could be a slight chance thats why the ref gave the penalty, although its blatantly obvious that Eduardo dived to win the penalty as opposed to jumping out the way and letting the ref award it for the above mentioned reasons.
Of course its good if UEFA are going to clamp down on cheaters in the game, but it should of been done a long time ago instead of now singleling out one player after ignoring lots others. And it needs to be enforced across the board.
Is potentially opening a can of worms that could cause some big problems.
It will probably go the way of the whole respect stuff though.
