Everton FC's head of medicine Daniel Donachie has left the club.

The respected physiotherapist, the son of former assistant manager Willie, ended his decade-plus period at Goodison last week.

Donachie, who is regarded as a leader in the industry and has been at the forefront of innovative techniques to help players recover from injury, departs at a difficult point for Roberto Martinez’s side.

Problems over James McCarthy’s susceptibility to hamstring injuries continue to be a major concern, and 18 Blues players have been sidelined with similar complaints over the last year and a half.

An in-depth investigation into the cause of McCarthy’s recent absence is ongoing, but will be without any further input from Donachie.

During the David Moyes era Donachie was credited with playing a major part in helping Everton challenge for Europe, despite often having one of the Premier League’s smallest squads.

He is a keen advocate of ashtanga yoga and helped Bryan Oviedo to return ahead of schedule from the double leg break he suffered in January.

Martinez, who himself is a qualified physiotherapist, said today he will carefully assess whether the midfielder is fully fit to figure at Hull on New Year’s Day, after he had to be withdrawn after 45 minutes at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Looks like he's carrying the can for all the injuries and on-going concerns.

From the outside looking in and reading between the lines, it would seem his methods are at odds with Martinez'.

Martinez has a physiotherapy degree though...

That could be part of the problem though, he's not a practicing Physiotherapist and possibly isn't up to speed with the latest findings or beliefs.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - or so we are led to believe.

Maybe he is suggesting different treatment plans to what Martinez believes and it isn't a healthy working relationship. One thing is clear though, we have lost Dave Billows to Newcastle and we're NOT fit this season (maybe a factor in all the twanged muscles) and we have now lost the head of Medicine department.

He better have some hotshot from ER lined up. (We'll end up with some extra from Casualty who was also on The Bill...as 4 different people)

Despite what the echo have reported, no physio has ever gotten a team into Europe. Knives being sharpened for Martinez there, wonder where the echo got their scoops from inside finch farm.?

Greg is best mates with Danny. I think the wording in the article makes it really obvious, discussing how 'respected' Danny was/is. Read like a defence of his best mate being made to carry the can. Definitely stuff going on in the background.

It's alright.

We've been through worse as Evertonians than the head of medicine leaving...

Oh yeah I mean, just the whole year in general, the end of last season compared to the start of this season. It's pretty impressive how things have gone.
