Transfer Rumour El Bilal Touré

If there’s no more “progress” in the Romano links today - it is clear this has just been a “we tried”/“hurry up music for other transfers from bigger fish” strategy. If you know Atalanta are circling you get the deal done immediately, not leak “heavy interest” to the usual tomato/brown sauces. Would point out that Romano has been used for this kind of thing in the past with Diaz/Kudus/Gallagher etc.
I think them 3 in particular where definite targets.

Don't think the club was "used" for any of them.

Lookman, Vlasic, Gordon, Kean - we failed to build on any of them despite their talent and potential and sold them on without any menagingful impact in the first team.
We made decent money on all of them, and not a one has turned into a world beater yet. Lookman cant do it in the PL. Gordon was never worth anywhere near what we got for him and, probably, never will be. Vlasic had one season in the PL for Westham before being loaned out to Italy because he wasnt good enough. Kean is the only one out of these i think couldve turned into a special player, but he seems to need something very different than we can offer him. Good business all around imo.

Not sure we made great money on any them a profit for sure on some mate, but we failed them developmentally in my opinion and essentialy got about what we paid and a small increase in some cases - bar Gordon. So you have to ask yourself what was the point and how is it retaliative and how do we learn. I mean Kean was a £28 mill forward last season we owned. We didnt have a centre forward at the club - what was the point in owning him. By owning him and carrying the cost, it was depleting over all - as we couldn't sign anyone due to limits of these type of these deals.

I didn't say not to do it, i just said i was cautious as we have a history exactly deals like the one i mention above in terms of non-development that is depleting and impactful.

I understand your point of view on this, and a part of me agrees, but i still think it was good business for us, especially looking back on it, knowing non of these players made a big splash.

Im not saying not, not to do it i understand the theory mate, im just querying the logic and our practice. I just think we have failed more players of this profile developmentally then not and that has been depleting. We know the theory we are just poor at practice.

Even if i become less binary, let take Onana, Garner and Patterson - each of those three i think we can say its the popular view that they are good signings with potential, but with developmental needs. If you are judging each of the three on last season, you would say all three's contribution has been boom and bust - for a variety of reasons. Good players but ones for the futrue and for now in fits and starts. Thats partly the reason why im cautious i see this lad fitting into that profile and lets be honest, based on our record as i detail in my other posts, the context of this post comparatively with Onana, Garner and Patterson and our needs for goals - right now. There is a significant degree of risk which makes me cautious.

If he comes i dont see him as a hit the ground running type - his record also indicates that, at best hes going to be boom and bust with varying form, whcih you would expect from his profile, just like Patterson, Onana and Garner. Where are the goals coming from, because man do we need them.

As i say i understand the theory of the signings of this profile, im just querying our reocrd, the logic and practice and am cautious about it, in terms of fit.
