It is also the kind of player that has helped keep us afloat financially when we sell on for profit.Im just going to say it - im cautious about signing this lid, because hes 21 and developing. I know the theory sign young players, develop them, they improve we get our money back etc - its what we should be doing.
I am however cautious, its absolutely the type of player we have failed to progress time and time again - Lookman, Vlasic, Gordon, Kean - we failed to build on any of them despite their talent and potential and sold them on without any menagingful impact in the first team. Its a profile i think we are shcokingly bad at in developing. Kean himself a case in point, we didnt have a striker last season and we had one we paid 28 mill for - out on loan at another club - because we faild to develop him. Im cautious this lad fits a similar profile.
In all fairness Kev may be doing a better job than Brands, in that in the 12 months here hes developed say Patterson, Onana and Garner in that profile and that's my hope, as opposed to what Brands did.
But still im a little cautious given our predisposition to boom and bust with this profile of player and how important a position it is for us in the season ahead - we cant afford to get it wrong.
Nothing against the lad himself, he could be boss for all i know, ive only seen Youtube cliips.
We did a similar deal for Onana who we hope will develop into a very good player.
We made substantial profits on Richarlison and Lukaku which helped off set the very poor spending on other players.
It is a risk but one we probably have to take.
