Does he stick with him on Saturday and again against Villa? Id have gone for Gray up top last night but changes the way Dyche plays.

Wouldn't have looked so bad if any of the midfielders managed to get within 10 yards of him
Yes if DCL is out, only an idiot would judge him based on last night, a game like that you instantly right off.
We play Leeds at home on Saturday, which is nothing like Liverpool away.

Leave him in. Play him with someone alongside him.

His movement is not great but he's a striker by trade and will get shots off when the ball falls to him.
Yep. No need to play all three of Gueye, Doucoure and Onana. Get rid of Doucoure, play Maupay and try, somehow, to craft a front two of Maupay and Simms. Play the least worst combination of Gray/McNeil/Iwobi on the wings. 442.

The MOTD analysis after Arsenal picked up on the fact that initially we couldn’t get out because no one was near Dom and so he had no one to lay it off to even if he won a duel. It’s a situation that makes the 9 look bad but really it’s created by a lack of support. In that game the highlighted that Dyche changed things and got men closer to Dom as the ball was going forward, resulting in the ball sticking up front and a raft of chances created.

Last night we started the same and never improved it- no idea if that was from the manager or just the players were too timid to push up and support him. I’m not saying he was brilliant but he was set up to fail. No support, and no service. His only half chance was given to him by a defensive error. You can’t expect to see anything from a striker playing like that.

The tactics definitely didn't suit him. We were always going to play like that and that's why he was picked really, but it didn't work. There's a bit of chicken and egg to it too though, the less you hold the ball up, the less inclined people are to get up in support. If you show an ability to hold onto the ball then people will think it's worth busting a gut to get up and help you out, but if you keep losing it immediately people are going to hesitate to gamble, both because of the wasted effort and the effect on the team shape etc. I just don't think he's capable of playing up front on his own, even if people were getting forward more. That's not a criticism of him, it's a specialised role and not everyone can do it.

We need to see Onana making the type of forward runs he made against Arsenal when we play Leeds. That allows whoever is up front the opportunity to get defenders running toward their own goal and they can become a threat.

I'd prefer to see a 442, tbh.

I was really expecting him to put in a massive shift in, in lieu of experience and quality. Didn't see that. He reminded me of Anichebe last night. But as @degsy says, it was a free hit and he should get another go, but needs to show more effort, if the quality isn't there right now.

Play him alongside Gray, while Dom is out. I don’t see Maupay being any use. I was disappointed we didn’t put Gray on alongside Simms last night. We had zero threat and Dacoure was making my eyes hurt. Yet we didn’t try 2 up top for some reason. How much worse could it have got?!

Give him a chance. I remember Graeme Sharp the season he came to us. He was poor at first, same with Fellaini.
I agree.

I remember Rashford was about to be loaned out to a L1 club, before being chucked into Utd's first 11 due to injuries. He grasped it. Let's hope SImms can do the same and work hard to improve.
