I think Simms would be pretty happy to have a career like Rashford's though! He'd be happy to have a career like Maupay let's be honest. He can definitely be useful for us, he has the ability to take chances if they come to him which is more than most of the rest of them can say. I would not be at all surprised to see him getting on the scoresheet a couple of times because that's what he's good at. That doesn't change the fact that isn't harsh or unfair or kneejerk to say that he's probably not going to be a good PL striker in the near future though, it's a fair analysis of what he's showed in his career so far and the way he's clearly been viewed by the coaches and managers who've worked with him. There are plenty more ahead of him for cannon duty that's for sure!
I don't think Rashford is that good a barometer either as although he is in terrific form he isn't that good and it has took him to 25 to get to this level.
We have done well with young academy strikers in the past though I am going back here but Jeffers, Chadwick, Vaughan and Anichebe all proved themselves useful at one time or another, hopefully Simms contributes from now until May as beggars can't be choosers.

His form now is the best of his career and he has had to reach his mid 20s to get to that level. Last year he only got 5 goals and was being slaughtered by the Man United fans. What, Rashford was banging goals in in the Premier League when he was 19?
I agree with that he looks like he can finish but whether we can create enough chances for him to do so is another story.I think Simms would be pretty happy to have a career like Rashford's though! Only scored 22 goals the season he was Simms's age though, and only had 40 England caps at that point. So they're on a similar path. What, Rashford was banging goals in in the Premier League when he was 19?
Ultimately any CF has to be primarily judged on the chances he takes vs those he misses. The frustrating thing for Simms is he’s yet to be presented with a decent chance to even begin to judge him on. That’s a reflection of him starting two difficult away games, but in those games a reflection of the team as a whole.I agree with that he looks like he can finish but whether we can create enough chances for him to do so is another story.
Yeah cuz he scored 10+ the previous few years (20+ if we go by all goals) lolHis form now is the best of his career and he has had to reach his mid 20s to get to that level. Last year he only got 5 goals and was being slaughtered by the Man United fans.
This season Rashford has looked better than ever and is looking his teams best threat. His previous record was decent enough but he now looks like he belongs in a top 4 team after bursting through as a teenager.Yeah cuz he scored 10+ the previous few years (20+ if we go by all goals) lol
Going by league only:
First season 5 in 11 - good debut/start for someone who was 18 years old;
Second season 5 in 32; 19 y/o
Third 7 in 32 (both seasons was with Mourinho who saw him solely as a winger for some reason); 20 y/o
10 in 33; 21 y/o
17 in 31; 22 y/o
11 in 37; 23 y/o
4 in 25; 24 y/o
12 in 23 (currently). 25 y/o
Can you see the outlier? Cuz it's not this season, just saying.
Simms isn't reaching this level sadly. As I've said here multiple times - he's not a prem footballer, wasn't at Hearts in the SPL, wasn't at Sland in the Championship. He'll probably do better if we actually set up to attack and he has Dominic Calvert-Lewin or someone actually mobile and fighting next to him, but he's just not the type of grock we need.
To be fair to Ellis Simms, the 'Derby' was not the ideal game for him, and he looked off the pace and a little uncertain. I'm going to say that Sean Dyche got this one wrong and should have started with the more experienced and snidey Neal Maupay from the start. Introducing Simms later on to give him a feel for the game may have been a better way to go. But that's easy to say the day after the match.
