Neither Maupay or Simms are at the standard required. Maupay is terrible - did you see his attempt at a header last week, under no real pressure accidentally headed it back straight into danger on edge of our box. A half decent player wouldn't make an unforced error like that. I've seen U10s make better clearances. It's not attacking play, but you expect him to be able to do some basics. Really annoys me that when we really need to clear the ball, we seem to have a long queue of players who will play the clown-like ball.

Think Simms stock grew was down to the situation we were linked with Coventry and Blackburn strikers while having one of our own in the same league scoring, all three respective clubs in not far apart either. Looking at his performances with Sunderland he now seems well off the pace of games in the premiership. Arguably championship is much more physical than premiership and he was getting in-between Centre backs for fun and getting shots off and scoring. Nowhere near that now from what i've seen.

Said it at the weekend but just glue his name to the team sheet until Dom is fit. No decisions to make then. He isn’t going to snap or cry or anything, he’s a grown man.

Impossible for him to be as ineffective as Maupay, at least in the current formation. He will either calm down and score a handful of scuffers, maybe a couple assists before the end of the season, or he will prove once and for all what his level is. There is no downside at all to this when the only other options up top are Maupay (who would better in any team except Everton), Mina or Keane.

I’ve always said that Simms is a slower developer than his ex age group teammate Gordon. At every stage of his development it’s taken him time to adapt and step up. It’s been the same with all his loan moves, a quiet start , sometimes a struggle , but then he’s eventually adapted and scored goals. He’s not got the attributes to be a regular PL starter yet, maybe never, he will improve with game time but unfortunately we don’t have that luxury at the moment.
If we are to get anything out of him this season he needs to be working just about every day with an attack - specific coach , fitness work, video analysis of his games and other strikers , the full works . If he can score 5 goals this season he may just save us.

Nothing really to lose at this point...match is done. Give the lad 45 minutes experience in the premier league...might prove useful for later in the season

He's quite obviously crap. I mean, if you're 22 and still being loaned out by your team, it's quite likely they don't rate you very highly.
