Yeah I think all of that is fair. I can’t stress enough that I’m not saying we shouldn’t give simms a start, just that I think some people are maybe not fully appreciating what dyche is looking to do and how having just one player in the side who doesn’t fully buy into it could make the whole thing unravel.

Literally nobody on this board has been more critical of doucoure than I have in the last 3 years, but I can see that what he brings to the current set up is important, and am not stupid/self absorbed enough to think that playing a better technical footballer instead of him would lead to better results. I find it bizarre that some people evidently lack the ability to see or acknowledge that type of thing.

And it may be that he wants to do what Dyche wants, but hasnt got the technical understanding/game intelligence to do so. That's always been an issue for Simms.

What you see from Dyche is he wants his teams to press intelligently. He has been wrongly labelled a neanderthal, but having listened to his podcasts and seen us play what he does without the ball is quite sophisticated. Its pressing, but in specific circumstances.

To Dyches credit, when chasing a game, hes been happy to use Simms, which is a plus for him.

Re Doucoure, I agree. I've probably been more mixed on him, but honestly I put a lot of blame on Lampard, trying to get him to do things hes awful at, and negating his strengths. He has done very well under Dyche, and I dont think it's a case of him not trying previously, but he asnt being used correctly at all. He is never a deep lying player who can dictate play.

I also think how he has used Simms lately is good management. He has introduced him in smaller aspects, where he had everything to gain and little to lose, and hes made an impact. I'm not sure people can say it hasnt been good management when it has worked.

If you were going to be critical of Dyche it may be that he threw him in for 90 at Anfield, and when the game was more tactical and less stretched he didnt suit that at all.

When you're a bad team, games kind of have an arc to them. The game gets set up for 60 minutes, then people start showing their hand a bit more, and spaces emerge. That's where I think Simms is best.

Simms looks like a last roll of the dice sub you throw on when chasing a goal. Someone who can finish one off if the team keeps throwing balls into the box.

Not sure why posters would start him...doesnt quite make sense to me.

not fair to judge him today but he is the weakest link in high team press. He won’t start another game when Doucoure is backs

Realistically he was fine today, if people are expecting a Haarland/ Rashford type of player they‘re batty , and even they fail to convert chances like the one he had. It was obviously a poor scuffed shot, normally he puts his fut through them with power. On the positive side his interplay created the chance, and he had a few decent touches while being mostly man marked by Maguire.

doesn't look anything near a premiership player because more than likely he isn't. the reality is this club is an absolute joke to have to recall this lad from Sunderland. nothing against him. I'm sure he cares and is willing but what a state this club is in when we are asking him to do a job to keep us up. sad and shameful that the idiots in charge of this club have let come to this.

Compare him to Maupay?

In terms of their achievements, Maupay has played at a higher level and has more experience and success in professional football. Simms is still in the early stages of his career and has yet to prove himself consistently at the highest level. However, Simms has been impressive in his performances so far, and he has the potential to become a top-level striker in the future.
